I realize that we're talking about personal taste in music, and you are surely entitled to your opinion, but IMO Jim Morrison was the ultimate frontman for a rock band. He was charismatic, sexy, lewd, and a helluva singer and lyricist-poet. The rest of the band was good enough to pull it off.

And in case you missed it, drugs and rock-and-roll were pretty tight back then, with a little sex to make it all stick together.

Taken in context, the first Doors album was nothing short of a revelation. A pivotal recording in the history of rock, IMHO.

And have we forgotten the Rolling Stones? Another incredible band, but you really have to go back to their early stuff to get a full appreciation. Honky Tonk Women is still a great rock song in my book.

Well I can agree to disagree, although in fairness I haven't been very patient with their music - obviously they did something right . At least we agree when it comes to the Rolling Stones.

Back to the subject - why has nobody mentioned any of the Irish greats: the Horslips, Rory Gallagher, Thin Lizzy, Boomtown Rats... ?

I'm surprised no one mentioned Styx or Rush yet.

rush was cool when i was like 12..... the early rush albums sound like zeppelin, the middle ones like 2112 are the classic concept albums, and the later ones are a little more poppy.

styx is ok.

iron maiden is good too, powerslave is a great starting point to get into them.

thin lizzy is pretty good, jailbreak is a good album.

pre unforgettable fire u2, is worth a listen, they used to have an agenda!

any david lee roth van halen album is awesome too, especially fair warning, eddie was pissed and you can tell!

keep in mind these classic rock bands are a lot more album oriented than bands are now so you're missing a lot buy just listening to a few songs here and there. especially with rush
