*purchase

A single, unleaded fuel purchase on 3/31 in Tallahassee, FL has the following info, in case anyone wondered what kind of taxes are paid (I could give percentages, but I figure a real-world example can give a better idea):

8.82 gallons at $3.60/gallon = $31.75

Federal excise fuel tax: $1.61

State excise fuel tax: $0.35

State sales tax: $1.08

County excise fuel tax: $0.09

County sales tax: $0.53

County special fuel** tax: $0.60

Total taxes: $4.26 (or about 13.4% of your total purchase)

For a Florida state government vehicle fuel purchase, Fed excise tax, $1.61 of that, is exempt/removed.

**Special fuel= fuel with ethanol, which is to some extent, all fuel nowadays

Taxes differ county-to-county, and state-to-state.
