Since Mark Koch stopped doing the CF thing, who took over his role? I know there's someone who does it. Come out, come out, wherever you are!

I can make stuff but i require 5k up front in cash, 25 prepaid buyers, and a plane ticket out of the country and all orders non-refundable.

but you can contact mazdaspeed7 he has a lot of experience working with carbon fiber
|
arent veneers the cosmetic things you get over your teeth?? CF veneers would look better than gold i think...

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif That's what I was thinking when I read the title...why would anyone want carbon fiber fronts? |
Its lighter so it makes you faster have you learned nothing from ricers!

If I remember i'll talk to him on aim about it sometime. Thing is you'd have to have enough people to make it worthwhile and then i dunno. Though FD owners seem to have more money than 2nd geners. |

That is pretty cool, but I'm lookin' for the real thing. |
we can make almost anything out of CF, but we would need 10 orders ot start making them
|
Interesting.. I guess I just wanted my OE R-1 lip covered in 3k Twill and clearcoated.
Are you saying you need 10 orders to do that, or 10 orders to make a mold and produce full carbon pieces? |

wow thats more work than the whle overlaying process for carbon fiber |
you will cry when you tap a curb and that overlay comes loose or cracks

actually my front lip is fairly flexible, i placed a strip of 1/4" rubber under the lip, and i've hit several bumps and humps along the way without it cracking . i dont think homemade carbon fiber can be made rigid unlike the properly treated carbon fiber from boats... here are some pics of me bending a peice of carbon fiber i made a while back and one that mark koch made |
is that you stepping on it?
how thin is that thing? one layer of CF, might as well put vinyl on top! |
yeah im the one stepping on it. its pretty hard, and i was actually putting some effort to bend it.... obviously within safe amounts of force.
its about 2-3mm thick... i tried to take pics but not sure if they came out right.. here they are though. the other one i made though has just enough epoxy that the weave wont unravel, so thats why its very flexible obviously 1 layer is enough for cosmetic purposes such as these applications, i think anything thicker than a couple of layers where you need to use a lot of epoxy will not be very flexible, specially if its rigid as a function, like **** in real cars and boats |

Its all in the resin. The cloth isnt what determines if the structure is brittle or as flexible as urethane. |
you smell something?
|
I dont know how you change the properties of epoxy resin to become flexible?
I guess I always assume the worst, tap a curb, fine, hit it and crackola. stomp on that sill and it will break, stand on it gently and it flexes, its all in the impact. |
I thought about that. I'm just gonna go ahead and not hit curbs. It's not like I drive my FD to the store or anything. I really only take it out when I'm confident in my abilities and there's a low traffic level. Can't risk ******' my baby up!
|
That would be very nice looking... But why did they make the front bump out (outline) where the liscence plate is on the stock bodypiece. |
Umm.. I meant R1/R2, not '99-Spec. As to why they made a plate holder - I assume so you have a place to mount a license plate? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif
