In washington they simply can, we have very little labor laws covering overtime, I think they limit the total housr worked in a day to 16 or 20 and the total in a week to 100. They CAN fire you for refusing to work overtime, I saw it happen twice when I worked at BF Goodrich and there was absolutely nothing that the guys could do, that's why they wanted a Union so bad.



OSHA is a federal organization I believe, you want to find your local governmental organization.



States vary a ton from state to state, one of the guys at BFG that got canned for that was from Colorado and in CO they could not do that, so he didn't know.



Also, keep something in mind, if you refuse to do the OT from and employer standpoint, especially if you do it often will see you as not being a team player, it's bullshit, but in most states you don't need a reason to fire someone anyhow, you can come in the next day and he can tell you, you aren't needed... game over..



Just some things to keep in mind, I've always been an overtime *****, give me the option I can never seem to pass it up.

This is where you pull out the employment contract you signed and read the section about overtime.

i never had to sign anything, let me quote the info i could find....looks like i lose:



Team members are at times expected to work overtime when it is required/scheduled.

In general, mandatory overtime is not legal.

You need to check with your state and county labor laws to confirm.

Try do a search online - a lot of states post this info online.
