you remove one trailing spark plug, connect the tester, disable the fuel pump, hold open the throttle, and crank away. Repeat for the other rotor.

you should call them back and ask how much they get to change the spark plugs- its the same thing.

I just checked compression on that vert I bought a few weeks ago, took me less then 10 minutes to do.

the real question is... why would you go to mazda for a compression check?

even if compression is fine they'll try to sell you a motor.

kevin.

My dealer actually said it was surprisingly well, and they were hoping I'd leave it another day so they could test drive it.

you could do the sound test, 3 even whooshes.

or you could buy a compression tester from straus for probably MAX $40 and just remove the shrader valve or hold the air release button while cranking the engine.

You could buy a real one from

http://www.japanicity.com/~mak/index.html

e-mail : sanwa-xel@mvi.biglobe.ne.jp

and tell him you want one. It'll run you around $610 Plus around $20 shipping from Japan.

I've used mine a few times now and it works well. I realized that my readings with the dial or standard type compression tester were at least 10 psi off. I believe this is because I couldn't tighten the 14mm fitting into the trail spark plug holes very tightly. This digital tester converts readings for 250 RPM with the flick of a switch. It also data logs onto a laptop. The Mazda one can't do either.
