asked if they have a compression tester for rotary and the guys says hold on. comes back on and i hear the guy who he asked in the bg say not a good one but yeah, so the guy who is on the phone just says yeah. so im like not a good one but yeah? and the guy is like yeah, not a good one. so i ask how much and now the guy on the phone magically has all of the answers, he says itll take 2.5 hours so $220. im like ok thanks.

heres the thing, i cant see how it would take 2.5 hours to screw something into 4 holes and crank the motor over, am i missing something?

boxrs4sale 12-28-2004 02:34 PM

ask them

Sinful7 12-28-2004 02:34 PM

Yeah, you are missing something.. they only have to screw it into two holes.

Shane.Trammell 12-28-2004 02:41 PM

ok im gonna call them back and be like it takes you 2.5 hours to screw something into two very accessible holes?

or you could say "you want to charge $220 to screw 2 different holes ?"

Shane.Trammell 12-28-2004 03:02 PM

i called em back. heres how it went:

i make sure im talking to the same guy and then

"so on the compression test you guys take 2.5 hours to screw something into 2 holes and crank the engine over?"

the guy: "im not sure exactly what they do bc im not the guy who actually does the testing."

"it cant actually take 2.5 hours to screw something in two holes and crank the engine"

the guy: :"i know they have a special procedure that mazda makes them do when they do compression testing, they go in and do other stuff too."

"well what if i just want them to do a compression test with nothing else, would that still cost 2.5 hours worth of labor?"

the guy:" the $220 is what we charge for a compression test, its not by the hour."

"(while chuckling a little) ok thanks a lot."

this seems a little contradictory to how he said the price before, it sounded more based on labor than flat rate. oh well mazda service still sucks a big un

Uh, well... Labor is flat rate.. They quote it out of a book, and it's usually the same for all models across the line. So I wouldn't doubt he knew the number off the top of his head.

the real question is... why would you go to mazda for a compression check?

even if compression is fine they'll try to sell you a motor.
