Ps this will be my 10th year riding
I've been riding for like 3 1/2 years, I think. Up until last October when I got the 7, the motorcycle was my only transportation. I still ride to work and such quite often (it's more reliable than the 7!). [/quote]

HA HA you werent' the one I wanted an answer from, but cool! I was wondering how much experience the ones dishing out the "don't get the R6" advice had.

I definetely recommend a used bike for your first.

In regard to the gixxer 600 there was NO effort put into the 600 until 2000, it was behind every other 600 market and MILES behind the FI 600.

So to say that 600 is a bad *** rig, you'd have to know the year, but guessing from the carb comment it's a pre, gixxer 600 comes out of the dark ages model LOL

My first new bike was an R6, it's a great bike. Handles very well. It shines in the twisties. I dumped it at about 40mph though.... it slid for a good 1/2 mile, did very little damage. Scuffed a couple of places and cracked the cover on the gearbox. Anyway, great bike... make sure you're wearing out the sidewalls before the main tread, or you aren't really driving it the way it should be.

The frames for the newer ones are some new box-frame or some crap i think. How much would it cost to have it gusted? Anyway, i have been riding ATV's for 14 years (started at 4 now 18 1/2ish) and dirtbikes for 2 consistently.

So does anyone have any ideas on loan options?

Here's what I did. Open the phone book to the yellow pages under banks and/or credit unions, and start calling every damn number you can. Just ask for loan rates on new motorcycles (or used, if you go that route). It's easy to open a new account, and it's worth it if you find a good rate.

Same method works good for insurance; easy to get quotes over the phone.

I wasn't saying not to get an R6 - but I wouldn't get it.. if you're a newbie on a bike who probably doesn't know how to ride.

a sv650 is a pretty good starter bike..... IMHO. I just don't consider relatively fast bikes for starter bikes - but we have our own opinions don't we?

Maybe for you a Kaw (or any company related) 250/500 bike will bore you, but it's the best way you can learn, without killing yourself, in my opinion.. and what I've been told.-

I don't ride as much because A. I don't have a license, and B. when I do ride.. it's on back rodes where cops can't pull me over for no license. I had tried to learn on a 600 - suzuki katana.. I guess you can say "bad bike to learn on" just a heavy pig.

Now you might think I am being a hypocrite of some sort, when I say a katana is a heavy pig but what about the sv650? Well, I've riden both, and to be honest, the feel of a SV was much greater than the katana, and not as heavy........ But ya know, sometimes my opinion means nothing

Anyway, I've been riding for about a year - but like I said, I don't have a bike yet, because I don't have money... I just ride my friend's ..... at times.. and My Ex's (the one I rode on first..... katana...)

so.. I wasn't trying to avoid this thread, I was merely busy.

Im going to outgrow anything below a 600 faster than its worth paying for it and like has been said resale value is EWWW.

a 250 is wayyyy out of the question, my banshee would prolly whoop that thing hehe. I have a .60 bore pipped and jetted banshee, thats alot of power so i know a 250 is too small.

Thnx alot guys, any suggestions on gear for riding? Im alrdy getting a helmet, this isn't florida : )
