I've always liked Nikes. I'll never buy shirts, hockey equipment, golf equipment or anything else from them, but they do know shoes.
I did buy Nike golf shoes, but those are still shoes, and the best ones I've ever tried. Nice looking too. My Nike joggers are losing the sole right now, but they are about 5 years old.
I have Otomix weight lifting shoes and those feel great too. They don't really make anything for general use, though.
My Adidas rugby spikes were pieces of crap, poorly made, not very durable and painful to wear. The Mizunos I have now are much better.
If you wear hiking boots I would look at a a pair of Zamberlans. You can order a pair from here Mountain Equipment Co-op I bought a pair and went on a week long hiking trip in the Rockies without breaking them in and they felt great. Once those ones finally wore out I bought another pair. Awesome comfort and support. Though with your special requirements you may not want to mail order.

I didn't know Nikes were actually that good. I guess I'll have to give them a shot. Plus I know they have sizes up to like 16 in stores (I have big friends).

New Balance are great. I have wide feet and most athletic shoes are too narrow. They come in widths, mine are EEE. They look cool and are reasonably priced.
I do not play sports in the New Balance. I have some Nike basketball shoes for indoor sports, and a shitload of Nike cleats for football. I just have to try on 50 pairs at the store before I can find one that fits.

I am kinda preppy So I only wear Dr. Martins. I love them. Havent bought a pair of shoes in 3 years. They last forever. But I doubt you like wearing big shoes....
Thanks for all the input, guys. Now I know which to check out first.

Best shoes I ever had were Nike Zions. Kind of a cross between a deck shoe and a trail runner. Of course they promptly discontinued them.
I've been wearing Rockport walking shoes for the past couple years, like them very much. Rockport is good stuff.
