I donno if you're aware or not, but there's a big Scam that has really exploded in the past couple of years on the internet called 419 scams. They're based out of Nigeria, and actually started in the '80's through the mail, but the internet has made it so much easier. Some are through e-mail, but often they have bots that search the internet and find people selling/auctioning just about anything. Most of the time they will send you a bad check for over the amount, and have you send the "change" back to an address of an "associate" or something similar somewhere in Europe. Then they send you an e-mail about purchasing the item. Often the scam can be recognized, because they don't know anything about the item they're purchasing. My friend came into contact with one of these guys when he was selling about $1k of hockey equipment on ebay. He didn't recognize it until he recieved the bad check. I think you could check the IP Address in the e-mails that you're recieving. That will tell you if the e-mails are coming from where they tell you they're coming from. But that's still not really enough. I won't sell anything to anyone outside the U.S./Canada, unless they're paying with Paypal. The fact that someone is willing to ship a car overseas is very suspicious in itself. I can't imagine it would be worth their while.

You know, that sounds a little too familiar. Every freakin time I tried to get them to talk on the phone about the car, they ignored it. It seems like they don't really know anything about the car, and that whole over the amount bad check thing is sounding too right right now. I've known something wasn't right from the start, I just hope the bank can recognize this this morning when I go down there. I'm the type of person that likes to sorta get to know the person buying my cars so I know they'll treat it well and everything, and I could never do that with these people that's mainly how I knew something was up. I'll update you guys tonight when I get home from work with what the bank said.

I'm still curious if it is fraud, I don't think so though because it is from a very well known bank that my parents also use.
you dont think people can fake bank checks?

Ok, update guys. I went to my bank today, and immediately they knew it was fraud, they took a photo copy of the check and told me to go to the cops about it, so that I did. I went to the station and talked to a cop, and as soon as I started explaining it he knew what I was talking about and told me about all of it that has been going on. I showed him the check and the copy of the last e-mail I got from them which included a name and address of them, he went around the corner for a minute, then came back and told me he was keeping those and a report was going to get filed. When I got home I talked to the FBI and explained everything that happened, then followed with a report with them. I will hopefully hear something back soon about what happened, but I just wanted to let you guys know. Thanks again for all your help with it all.

Nah, he went there and was honest about it. There's no reason for him to worry.

Good job on the checking out! Sorry you didn't sell your car.

It will sell!! I'll pay off my eBay account someday here then put the car on there. I'll lower the price. Kinda ticked me off though... I was on eBay this afternoon and I saw a FD on there with a buy it now of $10,500... and that check was $10,400... yea you know what went through my mind lol I'm all set with that though, I would have been screwed.

And Eric, that's actually funny, I doubt they thought of it though, everyone at my bank knows me pretty well haha.
