okay can you boot into safe mode, it might be a service running in the background that is causing the error. when you first turn on your pc start tapping F8. hit it like once a sec. you'll get a screen asking you to select from some boot options. choose safe mode without networking. if you do get into windows there is a program under system tools called system restore. select a previous date and then see if it load into windows on reboot. if it does you back your info up and then do a clean install. if this doesn't work you can do a dirty install of XP, but once your back into windows back up data and still format reinstall. regardless of what happens your PC needs a fresh install of the OS.

also if you want to use the win2k disk you can. just create another partition during the setup and you can still access your files from XP. they both run on NTFS.

about the partition thing not sure if that will work now that i think about it.....just try what i said in the first post and go from there

it's kinda tricky getting into "my documents" because windows says it's protected, I had to get into it from a separate xp install on the same HD because i had almost the same problem he is having, but i can't remember how

XP doesn't necessarily run on NTFS, especially if he upgraded from 98 or ME.

ok.. I changed my boot sequence.. so that the computer will look for the Cd rom... to boot up windows 2k

It prompted my if i wanted to format my C: drive. It's the drive with windows on it.

No problem, formatted, installed Win 2k. got all done. it loaded all up to desk top (after about an hour of rebooting, and configureing and everything else that goes along with it...)

Than, i tried to go an install my net work adapters.. so i could get on the net and install all new drivers. Just as i was installing the drivers, the computer crashed again. Man, now it wont boot up. again.

WTF is wrong with my computer. It's getting to the point where i think i should take it to a shop

but how much do you think they'd charge me to fix it?

thanks guys
