well, here's what i got.. and here's my problem

1.4 AMD Thunderbird

512 DDR

40 gig partitioned into 2..

ATI Radeon 9000 PRO

Creative Sound blaster PCI 512

Running WIndows XP PRO

The other night i turned my computer ON, and it loaded up like normal. went to the main screen and stopped. where i would normally enter my login password there's just a welcome screen with a windows logo in the middle of the screen. (it's locking up)

so i try safe mode.. same thing. i try debugging mode.. same thing

I have no freaking idea what could be wrong with my comp. I've got mouse control when it loads into the main welcome screen. but it wont do anything after that.

After a couple of boots trying to get it to load up. I got a blue error screen. alot of numbers, and xxx489030754 something like that. the only thing i picked up out of all of that was ATI...

So i figured maybe it's a vid card problem. so i reverted back to my old card.. hercules prophet 4500. still wont load. So i reverted back to my ATI card, booted windows and got a different error message. something along the lines of the system registry being changed... and windows has sufferd from a serious error.

obviously windows lost a major file somewhere along the lines.. but i dont know WTF to do.

please, i know some of you are good with computers. i'm good, but not that good

My computer was home built by my x roomate, which i would get a boot disk from him, but he's kinda pist at my because i kicked him out due to not paying rent.

the computer has been fine for nearly 2 years.. and i did not install or change anything i am an avid gamer.. and i surf the web alot, but i have not changed anything as far as programs or anything else (i installed the ATI card about 3 weeks ago, and did have a problem)

any idea's??

-thanks.. Markus

Just re-install winblows over the top of your existing install, it should fix the issue and you won't loose all your data.

sounds like windows f'd up

put in your xp disk to do a REPAIR and you won't lose any data https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

but if i can't get into windows.. how can i make the comp read the CD from boot up?

will it automaticcally read it? another problem. i Dont have the XP disk. only windows 2k server

if i install that.. when i boot the comp will it prompt me to see what OS i wanna run?

than i can just uninstall XP. once i get 2000 in. I'm stumped

you need an xp disk. it is bootable

phinsup 06-02-2003 12:25 PM

You need an xp disk, your pc should seek the CD-Rom when it boots, if not you can set it to do so in your bios.

Installing win2k will prolly hose your xp install.

My suggestion would be to "locate" an xp disc which you can purchase at your local computer store https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png Granted there are many places like kazaa where you could download it for free, but that would be illegal.

i dont understand. "installing win2k will hose your xp install"

If i can't find an XP Disk, and my last resort is TO install Win2k. how would i go about that.. and will i loose all my info on my drive?

i think its the bypass line

I don't think microsoft would like you to revert back to older versions of windows...

phinsup 06-02-2003 12:35 PM

Umm, not sure I know how to elaborate on that much. When you stick the win2k in the drive and you install it, it will erase all the data that currently resides on your hard drive.

That work?
