The difficulty with a vaccine for a virus such as HIV is that it is constantly mutating and changing. HIV in one individual may be completely different strain than in another. That is one reason why the drug therapy stops working and therapy has to be changed.



Same reason why you may still get the flu even though you were vaccinated against it for that year. We vaccinate for the prevalent strain for the year but it does not mean that others aren't there to infect you. Same with the HIV virus. If their is a silver cloud with HIV it is the fact that it has zero survival rate outside of humans and bodily fluids. In fact, it will not survive long even in a drop of blood sitting on a counter top. It is a very fragile virus because it has a protein coating and without the coating which it loses outside of bodily fluids, it dies immediately.
