Taking the money I would spend on a new Vette and putting it into my FD I would kick the Vetts *** and then some.
And just because Mazda isn't putting a rotary into a Miata doesn't mean you cant.

And that Vette will run for 100k or more miles.

why not take the money and put it into a vega then.
Be realistic. A regular Joe Blow with some coin grew up with Corvette as the car to have when
you made something of yourself.
It does not matter if you can take $20k and put it into a 15 year old car and outperform it, thats not the point of the car.
Mazda needs to make 300hp, keep the car under $37k, and try to make the motor last more then 10k miles of abusive driving
to even think about selling 20k cars a year.

land rover sells decently and there cars dont make it more then 50 miels before breaking down and are more overpriced then cadicraps.
kevin.
kevin.
pimp/baller status....
i agree with you rob...without 300hp and a chassis like the FD or FC, mazda does not have a chance at having anything competing with what is out today.

It is less of a "try" and more of a "make sure" that the motor lasts over 10k miles of abusive driving.
... I am on my 3rd motor. Thought about an old Vette but wont consider it. lol People with the kind of money needed to purchase a new rx-7 or Vette are mostly middle aged (because us kids have no money) middle aged people for the most part have their past rooted in American cars. It is a culture thing. You also have those hardcore "Proud to be Americans" that buy only "American" cars (and "American" everything else for that matter) A Vette is an American car...or is it...
Toyota's have more parts made and more assembled in America than Chevy does. Off topic I know. Late night rant.

I could care less about the whole middle aged, proud to be an american thing. The Corvette is a proven fact that it can outlast alot of things on the road, get decent gas mileage, and still have great resale value. Those are a few of the good things about owning a vehicle that has been made for 50+ years, and still continuing to sell very well.

Yup. I kind of miss the wife's '78 L-82. More of a looker than a runner, but the car definitely had a certain attitude about it. History alone puts the 'vette in a special place.
And here's an interesting note: Last I checked the new LS-7 corvette makes what? 500 HP? and gets 24 mpg highway. The RX-8 makes what? 230 HP? and gets 24 mpg highway on a good day, with a strong tailwind.

That's why I am in love with the LSx series of motors! It is clearly proven that it's an amazing motor.
If I owned an RX-7, keyword is OWNED, it would have an LS1 in it, or one being planned to go in it.
