Another "the new rx-7!"
#1
There is a short article in the January Motor Trend about the supposed new RX-7. The pic is the ugly concept car, but they talk about the new 16x engine with direct injection and such. Staying out of the GT-R territory, sticking with the lightweight sports car.
We'll see where this leads.

I guess the big question is, is america ready for another 2 seater sports car? Let's face it the circumstances that led to the withdrawel of the 3rd gen have more or less come back again. High gas prices, suffering economy, etc, etc...

to be honest, apparently the car manufacturers think a 2-seater sports car revival is coming, i mean lets see:
Mazda Miata, Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Honda S2k still, Cadillac XLR or something, i think theres one or two more.
none of which have great power, but get the job done (except the caddy, but like all caddy's the HP is high and its still slow)
a nice rx7 would fit in there good.
kevin.

miata has been around forever
there are only so many people out there who fit into that 2 seater catagory, those with more money will buy the exotics
or a vette.
No matter how reliable you make the rotary, the average dude wont go for it.
Look at the problems with the FD when it came out, and the RX8, so what do they think making a even MORE complex
motor will do for them?

HP never made a car that fast. Power is nothing if the car is heavy.
Mazda has an opportunity to do something good here, or really fu*k up the Rx-7
Let us see which path they choose.
Its true though! the reason there are only 13,000 or so FD's in the US is because they didn't sell well at all. Maybe Americans have bad taste. They bitch about their SUVs getting 12mpg and I rarely see more than one person in one of those huge things. There are plenty of new Vetts though. Maybe it is all in their mind. I don't know...
