guys sorry to tell you this but a recorded conversation without the person knowing it is being recorded is not admisable in the court room......what you shoulda done is take the tape recorded and set it down right in front of you and say it is for your persoanl records and those of the attorney you are (or should) going to hire.

On a tangent to the topic, how do you find a good attorney when you need one? I've always heard by reference, but if none of your friends can give you a reference, do you just let your fingers do the walking?

I mean, I don't need a lawyer now, and I don't anticipate needing one in the near future, but when you need one it's usually too late to start looking.

I tried to stay out of this thread ... but I think his "tickets" are bullshit.

Traffic cops go through that kinda crap every day.. he just got pissed because he's used to having sunshine blown up his *** all day long, and he needed to flex his muscles on someone at the end of a long day.

Do something. That's bullshit. It was as much his fault as it was yours.

Charge him with "being to stupid to do the duty to which he swore to execute."

Why was he flagging people to turn right in the first place? Side of the road inspection? Seems that were not getting the whole story for some reason. The attempted manslaughter charge is a scare tactic, it would never hold up in court. But evading an officer is possible if he was directing traffic and you chose to disobey. If he had any reason to contact you as far as the incident was concerned they would have had a patrol come get you. I would not recemend you paly Mr nice guy and call it in next time. With the current ticket I would go to court. He has to prove gross negligence on your part in order to get the ticket to stick. Being that it was a detective flagging traffic I have reason to believe that there was some type of investigation going on in that area. just too many open loops in this story.

OMG the detective is just like EVERY OTHER DETECTIVE.

Detectives cant just sit an unmakred cop on a street waiting for a car, which they have no proof of which exact car it was, or which exact person was driving it.

And like i said a bunch of times before, you should have brought a lawyer.

Ill tell you how the convo wouldve went had you had a lawyer:

det: thanks for coming in

you: this is my lawyer

law: hello im so and so.

det: well i just wanted to say you should drive more carefully, see you on the road sometime, and hopefully in a better situation. goodbye.

you: have a nice day.

cause seriously that detective broke a bunch of rules for what he did, and simply made **** up. If it was attempted manslaughter to point a car at someone, whenever you drive through a mall parking lot youd get 50000 tickets.

people gotta learn about cops, you think they cans care you? we can scare them 10 times more and 10 times easier, bring a frickin lawyer. cops cant push you around or make **** up when one is there cause he will clal him on every little mistake.

oh and this will sound racist, prejudiced or whatever, but in all my experiences jewish lawyers are the best. i dont mean that in a bad way, but they know how to talk your way out of anything.

kevin.

No offense but you are so stupid for turning your self in. Man i cant beleave you did that. Hell they cany pull you over with out tags. Cops can chase you for miles and if they never get your tags they cant pull you over next time they see you even if they are sure it was you. They have to have tags. And 2. Every thing he said was bullshit. Lawyers man i cant beleave you did that. Those guys allmost get hit all the time. I woudl fight those tickets and take em to court. Damn wtf were you thinking.

business parking lots aren't under the jurisdiction of city or state law enforcement...unless hired by the business, as a security guard

I think...

I'm going to stand by what I did. I believe it was the right thing to do.

Lets look at the facts:

1) I got only $200 in fines. Most likely my insurance will not rise as this event transpired in NJ and I am registered and liscenced in WI. Most likely the points will not transfer either. I am not sure about this, but I think that there is no recipricity between those two states (if I am wrong, someone correct me).

2) A lawyer, court fees, my valuable time, time off work for court, and all the trouble of running around would have cost a whole world more than $200.

3) I did not know if he got my tags that morning. If he DID, I would have been pulled over at some later time and gotten arrested. By calling in, I removed any chance of uncertainty from the situation. I do not like to drive around town not knowing if the next cop that drives by me will pull me over and haul me in as well as tow my car.

Considering these facts, I think I did the right thing for my situation.

Even if they got your tags. Which they didnt. If they did pull you over you cant be hauled in. They cant ID the driver by the tags! If they got the tags all they coudl do id mail you a ticket. There was no way to ID the driver. At least that's how it works in PA. And since it was out of your state i deff woudlent have called in. just my 2 sense.
