Can you stop quicker with or without ABS?

they invented abs to stop faster. abs pumps the breaks faster than any human can in a emergency stop situation. Therefor enabling the car to not lock up the wheels and stop sooner.

hah, i just asked this like yesterday night. abs was designed to stop stupid drivers from locking and not being able to steer. for example in wet/snowy conditions when it is easy to lock them up. in my thread, turbovr6 said you stop faster without abs, but it is harder to control.

Yes, I'm sure it does pump the brakes faster than a human can. But to stop as fast as possible, you don't want the brakes to be pumping like crazy, you want to hold the tires constantly at their traction limit.

abs stopping distance is GREATER than non-abs. in otherwords, you stop faster WITHOUT abs. but the difference isnt very big.

abs = better control during hard braking. it prevents wheels from locking.

My friend was citing physics and static friction.

I just thought a lot of people had said you could stop faster without it.
