we could, the bolt pattern is 4x100

so we need to find a honda civic with snow tires.

then we will actually have ground clearence.

Did you guy's ever think of using bike shocks? A lot of them have separate adjusting for compression and rebound, and the damper and spring rates woud be close to what youre looking for, or if you mount them inboard, thats not a problem. I'd imagine that even if they had to be resprung and/or revalved it would still cost less than that!. Just an idea (probably already thought of)

Fox vanilla RC are bike shocks. They are used on the rear suspension of high $$$$ mountain bikes. Adjustable for dampening in jounce and rebound via 12 clicks.



Spring rates offered from 200 to 550 lb/inch.



They are 272 grams in weight, much lighter then any motorcycle/atv/snow molbile shock/spring package.

 

Look into this school. Click on Phase 1 or 2 and a scheadule will show to the left. Worth every penny. It trimmed 2 seconds off of my times everyone thought I made a major change to my car.

yeah, we did extensive research on shock alternatives this year. when it all comes down to it, these type are the best and they dont come much cheaper than this. if they do, you get what you pay for, ie inconsistent shocks that lock up after a season of use.



i looked into using racing scooter shocks, but never got enough info on them. they seemed heaver than the shocks we use, and not much cheaper, and less adjustment.



when it all came down to it, the best ones were:



risse jupiter 5

progressive 5th element

fox vanilla rc

mountino (or something like that)

 

i actually don't know much about the shocks, the Queen's FSAE team used them successfully last year... itwas a big dollar purchase and we reused them this year

 

on a side note, our engine TEC3, my techedge wideband o2, and the school's dynomachine was under 5 feet of water today as a highpressure pipe in the basement of the mechanical engineering building where the dyno room is burst.
