After all the trouble I have had trying to get this damn thing working, to no avail, I have decided to put in a 5.0 from a donated lincoln into my RX7. The money it would cost to make the rotary viable again versus the money it would take to just drop in a 302 just seemed to make sense. say I spend about $1000nto rebuild the RX I would still be left with, what, a 150HP car. As opposed to spending about 6 or 7 hundred to have an over 300HP beast, with torque I might add. It saddens me in a way though because I really liked the idea of a rotary, but sometimes common sense and practicality have to take over. What I figure i'll end up with is a really fast and fun car that handles well. I just wonder what the rest of the forum thinks about this decision. Will I be an outcast, will I be herealded for my ingenuity? I will however be one fast ***** who will take pleasure in leaving heavy old mustangs behind with one of their own weapons

if you want to go ahead but its ALOT OF WORK! most of the v8 rx7's i've seen look ghetto and rigged up. i would just keep the rotary. it would be less work

Go for it. My brother has an FD and a '88TII with a Chev 350 V8. Kool car and lots of low end torque. Check out Granny's for the adapters needed.

Why would it not handle good? From everything that I have read I will not be adding that much more weight- maybe 50lbs- now when you consider the Power to Weight ratios, I am gaining somewhere in the neighborhood of 150HP for the measly addition of that little bit of weight. That little bit of weight will not adversely effect the suspesion- and since I will be removing all A/C components and crap under the hood the gain is even more minimized. So if you think that it will not handle good then how do you think your car handles now. It should handle better than most cars out there- an independent rear wheel drive car? Come on- its worth a try!

From what everyone else preaches about the ratio and what not,they say it will mess it up but who know,GO FOR IT !



If things dont work out with my setup I will end up puttin a lil somthin somthin in there

Go for it! If your lucky we'll still talk to you. :tounge: Just kidding. Keep us posted on how it goes. I thought about doing the V8 swap, but then I decided to keep it rotary powered and make my car fast the expensive way.

HA! it is broken! Thats why I got the car free, the guy who owned it got tired of constantly having to repair it so when it finally gave up the ghost- I inherited it. And I did WANT to keep it Rotor powered but I'm more worried about cost effective fun. The way I think about it, I could spend 2k trying to make it a fairly operational, comparitively slow, non-turbo car... OR ...spend about a grand to have a torquey tire roasting powerplant. The V-8 was free too by the way. The choice became obvious to me as I spent three weeks trying to make the tired 13B even start-
