Don't for get the mazda shop manual, for those times when you say "where did that go" and every one's im and beer!!!!!!!!!

 

i used angle iron and a 10 feet of pipe on the 3/4" breaker bar

 

Its easiest to take the e-shaft bolt off before take the engine out.

I always heat up the bolt with MAP gas (though propane also works), then put on my deep 19mm socket onto a 2 foot sears 3/4 breaker bar (nice piece!).

Then, simply get a friend to bump the starter. (I use a remote starter trigger when at the shop alone).

You can also set the breaker bar against the frame (driver's side!!!) and bump the key yourself.



Obviously, you do this with the fan removed and make sure the engine can't start.



Its the easiest way to go about it if you don't have a flywheel brake.



Coincidentally, the Mazdatrix flywheel brakes are well worth the cash if you ever do more than one flywheel or e-shaft bolt removal.

 

Get the flywheel stopper. It's worth it.

 

To add to the proper organization, i get the large ziplock bags and put all the loose parts in them. I label the bags with a black marker so i know exactly where everything came from. It sounds corny, but it works! Make sure to also get the proper tranny fluid oil. Also fuel filter, and fuel lines. Hope this helps some guys.

 

for those of us with no air compressor.....the makita electric impact has worked for me even with the gobbles of red loctite I use on that flywheel nut. impact with the right socket from sears and presto. Ive tried the snap-on electric impact and it just doesnt have the ***** like the red makita. Takes that front bolt off with no hesitation also. Did we forget to mention the ice chest full of beer and driveway degreaser so the wife wont scream after you are done?

 

I'll add the red Makita electric impact to my shopping list... thanks. By the way, so true about the screaming wife, I feel your pain.

I recently Swapped Flywheels.I used a 3/4 inch Drive Breaker bar(about 3 feet..42 inches?),and a 54 mm socket.We strapped the Engine to a Pallet.I put a piece of chain on One of the Flywheel bolts,and then To another Bolt through the rear of the engine.One guy Held the Engine a little more Steady,while I put the bar at the "NINE-Ten O'clock" position.I then JUMPED on the bar!..about 3-4 tries and It Loosened up..It sucks when you have no Air tools and you are doing this in the middle of your Driveway,BUT if you have the Ingenuity,You can accomplish anything..

 

i would do a new pilot bearing and pilot seal

 

will the 13bt s4 single turbo engine fit in a 87 non turbo i have turbo rear end tranny and ecu and of course engine anything else i need?
