Wear those gloves that'll help protect your hands because believe me, YOU WILL HAVE THAM BANGED UP. I had bleeding knuckles for a week after I forced the 2.4 out of the Tempo. Have everything organized and ask questions before hand. Have your things planned out because the last thing you'll need is confusion after you're way to deep into the swap. I've done this twice and both times it wasn't pleasant. granted it wasn't an RX but still, a swap is a bitch if something goes wrong. Peace

new crush washers(ex*header washers, banjo bolt applications) don't reuse old ones

floor jack & stands

Its a good idea to have the cooling sys. (oil & water) pro. flushed if not replacing w/ new

Hayes manual, if not factory manual

ORGANIZATION, this is essential

Don't forget a full complement of fluids (Oil, anti-freeze, gear oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, etc.)

Will a N/A trans handle a TII motor? What about the diff?

Driveshaft? Same length? etc.

anyone ever gotten the flywheel/e-shaft lock bolt off without using a flywheel stopper?

mazdadrifter 09-21-2003 04:07 PM

yes I used a impact with a 2 1/8" socket, came off after a second

don't forget to replace the pilot bearing and throw-out bearing regardless if you are changing clutch.

Good music and beer are essential

you'll probably want to replace the tranny mounts since your right there, and they work hand in hand with the motor mounts

If you have time you might want to take off the oil cooler and dump the old oil out of it so your motor gets a fresh start

we should make a sticky for the best way to break motors, used, or rebuild
