I just finished my auto to manual swap about 2 weeks ago. And have now decided that I need to go for the mother of all swaps. The 2jz- twin turbo into my 7. I know it goes against all of our rotary religion to pt a piston engine in to our car, but it would be the best of both worlds. 2800lb car with an 800-1000 hp motor inside = insanity!

has anybody else successfully completed this swap before???

If so what problems did you have?

Please any advice will help.

I hope you have money! I've heard the supra trannies aren't much stronger than rx7s ones, and the rear end you are going to be blasting apart. So guru tranny, 9 bolt rear end. This is going to be a drag only car right? 800-100hp... Have you ever ridden around in an rx7 with 400-500rwhp? Talk about more than enough power on the street...

sunshine 04-30-2004 01:38 PM

There is a pic of an FD floating around the net with a 2JZ

Arnetts7 04-30-2004 03:23 PM

400-500 hp is alright. I've ridden in a supra with around700-800 and damn. The only people that I've seen do this swap before is sp-engineering. We'll see how it goes.

toddp31 04-30-2004 04:49 PM

I heard they spent 30k on the subframe alone

rfreeman27 04-30-2004 05:56 PM

Yeah its pretty pointless to do the swap...

If you are set on getting rid of the rotary, do a V8...they sell swap kits for it!

j9fd3s 04-30-2004 06:47 PM

its not gonna be a 2800lbs car after you put that boat anchor in there https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I think his fastest time was a 13 something...... no traction

There's another orange one that has a license plate "1000rwp". Its pretty ugly too. That and putting an engine like that in an RX-7 just makes the car unbalanced too; one of the finer points of the RX-7 in my opinion.

400-500hp is alright!?!?! first 700-800 hp supra is probably around as fast as a 400-500hp 7. Do you know how heavy a supra is? you can't compare a 700-800 hp supra with a 700-800 hp supra because of the weight difference. well, actually that's just my point.

actually another point, rfreeman is right.

Yeah if you want a 2jz get a supra. 'nuff said

most practical thing i've ever heard

Arnetts7 05-03-2004 08:28 PM

I agree with you guys in some points, But the swap isn't going to cost that much. I agree with you that a supra with 7-800 hp probably is pretty close to 500 hp 7, but if you've got a let say, 800 hp 7 that weighs probably a little bit more than stock 3100lbs agains a 500 hp 7 that weighs 2800lbs. don't you think the 800hp 7 would win?

I kow a lot more is involved besides hp numbers, but if traction and such isn't a factor don't you think the 800 hp 7 would win? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Arnetts7 05-03-2004 08:30 PM

I don't want a supra, I just want to get more power. Supra's are hella bank anyways, it wouldn't be worth it to get a supra.

FikseRxSeven 05-03-2004 08:33 PM

yeah but dont you think an 800hp v8 would whoop a supra's 800 hp?

Arnetts7 05-03-2004 10:16 PM

Yeah a 800 v8 would woop a 800 2jz ass. I would just like to keep my car all japan and not get into the america muscle ****. You know what I mean. If I wanted a V8 I would get a 68 camaro. I want to stick with japan cars and parts.

sorry to say..... but this thread is a joke

toddp31 05-05-2004 09:20 PM

I can get a 2jz and tranny for free and I still won't do it.

Jims5543 05-05-2004 10:26 PM

You do realize your about to loose your Rotary privledges right??

rx7_dren 05-10-2004 07:29 AM

the only good thing about this swap is.......reliability other than that ur car ill not be fast as if you had a 800hp rotary. the only good thing is the supra transmission they hold wayyyy more power than the rx7 ur better off going with a 3 rotor turbo, and for rotary reliability if u cant maintain one you shouldn't drive it

Alak 05-10-2004 12:54 PM

I've got a 1998 Supra with a 2JZ TT Engine (And Transmission) straight from a crate - it puts out about 640 RWHP. Its an insanely fast car, will do 200MPH fairly quickly, but it doesnt handle like a 7 at all. 7 is way better but that Inline 6 Screams up close to 9,500RPM. With that much power though, you can't just drop it in and go. You have to modify the chassis to take that much of a blow. I mean we could feel the car kinda bend and things breaking when we first drove it. We had to do alot of stiffening, but in the end it was awesome - the only complaint I have, the suspension is as stiff as a mofo AND the instructions came in Japanese.

sorry to say..... but this thread is a joke
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif i agree 110% the amount of money youd spend on the swap you could do so many other things that wouldnt be retarded

Authentic 05-14-2004 04:58 PM

IMO supras dyno with inflated #s, high rpms also inflate dyno #s.

Peak hp is deceptive, Avg hp is more like it. 600hp at 9k rpm sucks if you make 250hp at 5k rpm.

It seems to take more power for a supra to run with other cars in anything timed.

you could run 9 second 1/4s on pump gas with a v8 (a modern fuel injected 20mpg v8).

STOCK turbo II rears have taken 9 second blasts, on head cam + n20 Ls1 cars.

if you really want a MONSTER swap, you can get a 03 cobra motor ($$$)..you should run low 11s stock with any traction.

for a race application...t88. at 12psi you will have 750hp. also don't forget...a 3500pound 03 cobra gets better milage than a 2.0l Subaru WRX sTI.

an_juan 06-06-2004 09:16 PM

here ya go

Eyxom 06-21-2004 03:55 PM

Supra's are too expensive? Bwahahahahaha... What you just said is the most redundant statement I've ever heard.

The money you're going to have to spend to do this swap RIGHT, is going to blow away the cost of a new Supra w/ mods or just hooking up your 7 to to over 500whp. Sure, you can resort to just swapping the motor, but good luck with all the other expenses the "ghetto" swap is going to cost you. I've seen 450whp RX7's that run with 800whp Supra's, in the 1/4, all day long. Not to mention, a 450whp RX7 will rape an 800whp Supra in the autocross.

What you want to do is absurd. It's completely uneconomical. You say you're trying to get big numbers but you can get the same result for a LOT less money. Sure it's rare, but I guarantee you'll regret doing this a few months after it's been completed.

wanta be boosted 06-25-2004 09:36 AM

Worst idea I've ever heard! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I seriously wouldn't even think about that! Although if you do want to do it, you can use my supra7 shell/parts we made for it. Come drag it out of my gaurage! I need that space for my vert! The tranny blew up, and my 13BT is on the way!

Although if you used my piece you would have to use a 7M-GTE, 1G-GTE, or 1JZ-GTE (could use the GE series of the 7M/1JZ, but that would be incredibly retarded.)

ColinRX7 06-25-2004 04:10 PM

Where the hell are the updates on your RX7MGTE car anyways?

wanta be boosted 06-25-2004 04:31 PM

There is none! Because I'm not doing **** with that pile of crap! I sold all the supra parts out of it, and it remains a bare shell in my gaurage bay (Still has all the part we made...)

I've got a 1940 COE, and a Vert that will be turboed as soon at the 13BT gets here.

22GoinOn2 02-12-2005 04:37 PM

Why not go with a 20B instead of a 2JZ? Saves on weight, can make 1000rwhp, and you won't get beat up everytime you post something on here for yanking a rotary!

yep, a good buddy of mine has a 400+rwhp fd.

oddly another guy i know named ben blaylock (used to work for titan motorsports) has a weekend supra pushing 780rwhp, 900 with n20.

and while that supra is crazy, 400rwhp on an fd is plenty for the street, no reason to have 700 -1k horses on the street, unless its to compensate for a small penis and for bragging right's

i need to borrow a digi cam so i can take pics of the fd and the supra so i dont seem like im just spouting BS

trammell can back me up on my friends fd as he knows him too, but i dont think he has seen blaylocks supra yet.

edit: for double post...

stupid cpu

donhayes 02-28-2005 03:46 PM

What you should do is buy your self a Jeep Chamanche truck and drop in the supra motor and then go race the supra guys in the truck. My brother and I want to do that. A boxy truck with a turboed 2jz motor. The ultimate sleeper.

If you are careful, and have a vigilant eye, you can sometimes catch the elusive "dead post". Also be on the lookout for its sub-species the "newb"
