87 Turbo Ii Swap
i have a 87 turbo II and i just purchased an engine for it from japan. now i'm little stuck.original engine have manual oil metering pump and the japan engine have electronic pump. i notice that a lot of other stuff is different also,so PLEASE can someone give me a detailed procedure what to do and what to change. also can i remove air pump(smog pump)???
thank you !!!!
thank you !!!!
OK,First off if the OMP is electric then its a S5 engine.Just use your upper and lower intakes off your S4 engine. Then take the front cover off and swap it over if you plan to use the OMP too.Hook it up like the stock engine then take it for a spin and break it in.Make sure nothing is messed on it.Some J-specs have bad coolent seals from sitting or abuse and will go in no time.Vosko knows this well. But some J-specs seem to last.Just luck of the draw I guess. As for your smog pump you can pull it off.Just need a block off plate to block off the Air control valve on the lower intake manifold. Then cap the left over hoses and you should be good to go.Just do a search in the 2nd gen forum on air pump removal.I hope I helped you out some

Oh I forgot to mention this too.The S5 has a better manifold and turbo as well.Thats a nice bonus with a nice power gain. Then you have the manifold to run a nice hybrid turbo later on if you wish too.Good luck.

FYI:IF you don't know this.S4's are made 86-88 and S5's are 89-91

thank you for the info. one more thing though. fuel injectors on the j-spec engine have different plugs so i guess i have to reuse my injectors unless i splice the plug ins for the injector.
this engine i got it does look so clean and everithing under looks good, so i hoppe i will have no problems.
thanks Luis !!!

Yeah just use your stockers or some aftermarket ones for your S4 setup. Then it should be easy for you to swap over.Just ask if you have anymore questions.I'll try to help as best as I can.

hey luis i searched for that air pump removal and for some reason i cant find the steps of procedure. if you could get back to me and let me know how to do this step-by-step that will be great. what block off plates i need to get and all that. i'm also looking for down pipe for this car. if you have any suggestions where to get it let me know.
one more thing about the oil mettering lines. can i just leave those on on the japanese engine because they look almost the same and also i broke one off on my original engine(US model)??????
thanks a lot !!!!!!!!!

Yup the oil lines can stay.As for the air pump....does your car have power steering and AC?You might need the dual alternator pulle if does.I'll look up the thread I saw on the removal for you.

You remove the cats you no longer need the air pump so you can remove it. When you get it removed you have to block off the acv(air control valve) which is what the air pump sends the air through and get a dual alternator belt pully to increase the tension in the belts. And if yours was a NA I would say that you need to wire the 5th and 6th ports too but your isn't.Then that pipe that goes to the exhaust is no longer need either.Hope this helps you out somemore. It makes working on the car alot easier to see the parts.

I do have a/c but dont have p/s.
a/c pump is out too and I dont plan to put it back. I just want to run main shaft (crankshaft or whatever is called), water pump and alternator. I dont understand why I need dual pulley for the alternator because I have tensioner for the alternator belt.
to do that swap i had to take almost everything off the old motor and transfer it on to the new one. everything is different. i am going to use the turbo of the Japanese motor but even on that i had to switch over the oil return tube. wiring harnes of the old one I'm going to use and almost everything i gotta tell you only this -this motor better run because i lost all my patience.
Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate your help!
I just got all my gaskets today so this weekend i am gonna be bussy
thanks again
