what about the eccentric shaft? is that a special pice? if it had to be custom made i could see that costing some serious coin

mazdaspeed7 11-09-2003 06:28 PM

Look closely. All of the housings are not production mazda pieces. Theyre the 4 rotor specific housings from mazdas lemans effort int he early 90's. THAT is where the cost comes from.

A thing of beauty.

That's all I have to say on this one.,now I'm going to go cry for a few min.

One of those Turbo'd?? I see shattering 1/4 mile times.

I read in an interview w/ JD once that while they have lots of horsepower they are down on torque which kills him coming out of a corner.

He said coming out onto the straight he gets beat by the higher torque piston engines.

Hats off to him for continuing to race rotary powered cars even when Mazdapulled factory backing out from under him and the the rule makers continually hammer at him.

I would love to meet him one day. Next time I am in Atlanta I want to stop by his shop.

Those engines are well into the 100K range. They look like they're based exactly on the Mazda LeMans ones and one of those 787 cars cost about 2 MIL to make. So, 100K ofr the engine is a very reaonable price.

A 20B E-Shaft will run you more then 1K, then imagine the **** needed to makea 26B one, the R&D tha goes into making an E-Shaft that complex is enormous.

How did you gane access to this beautiful engines?

damn I'd hate when it comes time for a rebuild https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

mazdaspeed7 12-08-2003 08:16 PM

You can build a 13B based 4 rotor for about $15k in parts. Theres a few in Austraila I know of, and quite a few 13B based 3 rotors there as well. Hitman has a 13B based 3 rotor in one of his 1st gens, and the same company that makes that ecc shaft alsmo makes the 4 rotor one.

1BadassRevvin7 12-08-2003 10:15 PM

Where can I get some rotors and housings at?They may come in handy.

94touring 12-09-2003 10:32 PM

Thats sweet as hell. But come on...100k? Wheres the fact sheet that shows every penny put into the engine?

pk797 12-12-2003 08:24 AM

What it probably is, is that there counting everything. ie: R&D, fabrication of exotic custom parts, production costs, labor for the whole teams man hrs, everything...

Were so used to doing everything ourselves I think we forget how much time and money goes into one of these projects.

GreyGT-C 12-23-2004 07:07 PM

I met JD a few years ago at VIR when he brought 3-4 of the Crocotile cars out there... really nice guy.

As fas as the Ianetti 1pc 3mm ceramic seals they use in them.... i just sold a set a few months ago. They are EXPENSIVE!

I have built my own 4 rotor and it is installed into a 3rd gen Mazda RX7.It is much cheaper than Mazdas and uses a custom eccentric shaft.

I will have to take some pics and put it up for everyone to see.I will see if I can get a vid too.Only running 2 55mm dcoe carbs at first but will go injection and turbo later on.I am running Iannetti ceramic seals too,1 piece, get them from Iannetti direct as an engine builder.I cannot rate them enough, they are very, very good.Have used them in many engine's now.

Carl

How much power would one of there 4 rotor E-shafts handle??? If I had the money to dump into building one, it would definatly have the mother of all snails attached at the hip!

Did he buy like mazda direct engines? sorry for bring back old topic

xxxtodxxx 11-06-2005 05:39 PM

you can't get anything 4-rotor from mazda. all special project parts. no avaliable to the public

ccarlisi 11-23-2005 03:57 PM

The pricing above is accurate for a long block based on my conversations with Mandeville. $120,000 for a 4 rotor with the 2 stage intake manifold and in the ballpark of $200,000 for the infinitely variable manifold setup.
