A novice, with limited automotive wiring skills is not going to install the kit in that amount of time, I don;t care how good you are.

well the dos/windows thing is a moot point haltech will have both shortly.



yes the microtech needs to be plugged in for the software to work , while the haltechs for the most part does not

I had an extensive car audio and security background prior to my first Haltech install. I still think I took only 4 hours to figure everything out. If you're comfortable with automotive electrical wiring, I don't see any problems installing either.



My point is that comparing stand-alone EMS brands is normally a very subjective thing. We can all argue till we're blue in the face about each brand's merits and downfalls, but my main point is to try and pick the unit that you can get the best support for.



All of my customers that I have talked very extensively with prior to going with a Haltech purchases have all (well, with one pending exception) been very happy with their choice and have not regret the decision. I do try and present a very objective comparison of the options, and the Haltech usually comes out on top; this list would include Autronic, Electromotive, Haltech, Microtech, MoTeC, Wolf options. Microtech would be a very attractive option when they were selling them at around $500 to $600 a few months ago, but the price gap has closed to a few hundred dollars - RX-7 Store @ ~$900 versus K2RD @ $1200. If you're eyeing to save $300 in the purchase, this might be the best way to go about it.



ALL of the above-mentioned brands are capable of supporting a 13B engine. They all have the potential to produce gobs of power and a very fast race car. Some have their little installation quirks, but any competent install should be able to get around them with very little fuss.

Don't believe they hype about the "base maps". I know that when Dragon did his 20B install the base map that microtec gave him did NOT run the car. He had to figure it out to get it just to START.



Also, one of the downfalls of the microtec....anytime you want to do anything with the software....your laptop MUST be plugged into the ECU.



I'll stick with my power FC/datalogit for now, but if I had a choice I'd try out the haltech for the simple reason that RETed stated...SUPPORT.

Wow, you guys have no idea how much I appreciate the input.



I mean, I'm an (automotively) uneducated teenager jumping head-first into this project. Seriously without the help of NP I would be lost!



I think jspecracer7 and RETed have finalized my decision to go with the Haltech. When I was first looking at parts for this project, I just assumed I would buy a Haltech. Just recently someone mentioned in the parts section that I should check out MicroTech, and that just got me thinking about how I didn't even consider other EMSs.

I agonized over this purchase decision for way too long, and finally ended up buying a Haltech E6X. I haven't actually received it yet, but I'll let you know how it goes when I do get it.

I'll probably do a write-up for my website when it's all said and done...but like I said, it will be a few weeks before I have the $$ to order it.

i think i did my first e6k faster than i did the last one...



i really dont see a big installation difference, i mean they all need the same stuff hooked up....

One of the biggest problems I had with Mikes (frestyles) car was the fact that the wiring harness that I had, and the instruction manual did not match. After sweating all of this for about 4 hrs, I finally looked to see if there was an updated wiring diagram on their website, sure enought the two wires that made no sense whatsoever had been recolor coded on the website. This was one of the headaches...



I have a good backround in car electronics as well, and I have been doing GM stuff for a while so the connectors were nothing new to me, just Mikes car was a basket case to begin with. I cannot speak on both yet, as I said in my original post, because I have not installed both, in a few weeks I will have done both and will be able to give a better opinion on each
