Microtech Lt-8 Vs Haltech E6x

I want to make sure I get what's best for my project. Since I have no knowledge whatsoever of engine management systems, I'm asking you guys what you think.



This would be for my Cosmo motor in my FB of course...



I would like the software to be powerful enough for real-time programming, boost control, and ease of loading maps. For instance, I know the e6x can store 2 maps, so I could have a high and low boost map depending on my situation on the street.



Please advise me!

well i think either one will do that. the haltech boost control is not as good as the japanese electronic ones.



i think the microtech would be in the same boat here, its tough to beat a profec b...



with the haltech i think you can have an external switch to toggle between maps, or thru the laptop.

Both are good units. The decision comes down to what your tuner is most familiar with.

The one thing I really like about MicroTech is that they give you a base map to begin with from your car/engine type...it IS cheaper too...



I just want to make sure I get the right thing, this is kinda a big purchase you know?

I will add a reply to this in a few weeks, the reason is I have installed the Haltech in Frestyles FC and I was not impressed, I have recently purchased a Microtech and will be installing it in another S5 FC shortly. I will say this, from what I have seen of the interface of the microtech I am already a fan, I am all about the technology. If the wiring harness is half as hard as the Haltech to install I will definately be biased towards the microtech. Right now the Haltech has a few more members using it over the Microtech so you will have some biased opinions on what is better. It all comes down to what is easiest for you. You can download both software packages from the manufactuers website, although you can't see all the tuning parameters, you can get a look at some of the features each has. Cheapest is not always better. But after the fun I had installing the Haltech on Frestyles, I will like anything better :P

I probably won't be buying anything for about a month...that gives me plenty of time to get the engine/turbo/manifold put together.



I figured people would be biased...Haltech EMSs are very popular; however, someone on the parts for sale section recommended me getting a MicroTech over an E6X, so I figured I would do a little more research.

after you buy the latop adaptor ($120) and a couple of other things, its about $100 difference from the haltech, so dont let sheer price be your determining factor

Yeah it wasn't going to be the only point I would base my decision on, but it's definitely a pro. The Haltech kit I was looking at was like $1400 for all the sensors and such...



At any rate, it's an important decision because of the cost and what it's going to be doing for my car.

It really should not be primarily based on price, although a lot of Microtech supportors seem to like to push the cheaper price.



GET THE UNIT THAT YOU CAN GET THE BEST SUPPORT FOR.



Unless you know all the fundamentals on how fuel delivery, ignition timing, and all the other engine parameters interact with each other, you're going to end up pulling hairs.



I don't understand how anyone can argue against the use of the Haltech software, but if you like staring at a chart of numbers, there is a numerical interface that you can toggle with the Haltech. Personally, I think the bars is a better way to adjust things for a newbie - go figure.



I dunno how much easier it is to install the Microtech wiring harness, but I can install a Haltech flying lead harness in my sleep. I think my record on stuffing an E6K harness into an FC is around 2 hours. Can you install a Microtech harness that much faster? Anyone with a basic knowledge of automotive electrical wiring should have any problem with installing either or - this should not persuade you into choosing one EMS over another.



I would HIGH RECOMMEND downloading the two types of software programs.

I know Haltech has a downloads section for this, and you can easily mess around with it without connecting a Haltech ECU to it. I think the Microtech requires their ECU to be connected (?), so this might not be as easy as the Haltech program, but screen shots should be available to check out.



People will sometimes argue against DOS-based progarms versus Windows based programs, but I'd like to see these people control a mouse pointer in a vehicle doing 100mph and still accelerating. I've got no problem navigating through the Haltech DOS program through keystrokes.
