Ok, I am going to get the T78 turbo tomorrow and need to get all the stuff to make sure that I can properly tune it.

I am getting the rotormotorsports secondary fuel rail, and 1600cc injectors, but cant find a place to get primaries (where can I get those or are stock fine???). I am gettin a 4 row IC also.

Now for my questions. Does the Haltech require a laptop??? Install doesnt seem TOO bad, but how long does it normally take??? What else should I look into gettin to make sure that I can properly tune the car??? Is the Haltech really worth it, or can I get by with a cheaper fuel management/boost controller???

I am new to this, and trying to learn but couldnt find the info I needed, any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Thanx,

Ben

Laptop is not necessary, but you do need a computer to tune and load maps into the Haltech. A Desktop PC could be used. Any old Laptop PC would work. I switched Laptops from my (Win2000) one to an old 386 color screen DOS laptop. I actually keep it in the car.

Because the software is DOS based a pure DOS machine runs better than Win2000 due to the way Win2000 handles the serial port.

Is the Haltech the best? I'm sure not, but it is very flexible and a lot of Rotary folks use it. Check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HaltechSupport/

I love the haltech system, and install isn't that bad at all.... it took me and my dad 36 hours of work time done in the span of 7 days, give or take..... we were also working in a fully equiped shop with lifts (not needed) and about every tool ever needed, so that helped out alot...

the hardest part of the install, in my opinion, was putting in the harness... we went through the firewall on the driver's side and went under the dash... and with the big *** plug and the stiff bundle of wires, it was quite a challenge (we mounted the ecu behind the glove box)

the TPS was fairly simple, although other ppl say it's the hardest part...but like i said, we were in a well furbished shop.... other then that it's a breeze...

I hear that the haltech isn't the best thing in the world to use for boost control... I'm using it for right now but eventually will get an independent boost controller...

and as far as a laptop goes, I'm currently using my winXP laptop, and it works fine... but originally I used a desktop to get it running... the best thing to do is what dac did and buy an old paper wait laptop, which I'm eventually gonna do... you can pick one up for $100-$200 and it'll do the job as well as anything else...

If I have enough money after I buy TONS OF **** today, I think I will pick that up too then.

Anything else I might need to know???

I have access to a race shop (no lifts in the SHOP, but in my buddies 40 ft trailer there is an air lift). I am gettin ready to buy a full mechanics tool set too to work on the bad boy, lol.

Thanx again,

Ben

imagine 3 back to back stereo installs, thats about how hard the haltech is to put in.

I'd rather do the standalone. Stereo installs are annoying.

oh I dunno....if you do a half *** slap together job on a stereo like my stupid dumbshit brother did, it isn't that bad at all.... and he wanted me to pay for it, hahahaha, fat chance in helll, I had to go rewire the whole damned thing, and then when I was in Rhode island he stole my EQ, 2 Amps, Subwoofer and box, and about half my CDs.... only gotten back the EQ, the rest is coming out of his *** very soon
