zooq 03-08-2003 11:35 PM

how much whp does an FD need to do a 10 sec pass, or break into the 130 mph range?

i'm more interested in the 130 mph than the time because to get an RX7 to hook means that i'll break stuff.

i already broke one rear end on drag radials and i only had 360 whp.

tell me what you guys think

amp 03-09-2003 12:19 AM

pending on other factors...

id consider the range of high 400s for the speed pass....

i would tend to think mid to low 500s with the time...

check for some horsepower calculators....

kahren 03-09-2003 04:00 AM

over 500 at the frywheel low 500s woudl get u a 10 second pass with good z rated tires with slicks u can do high 400s

onboost 03-09-2003 05:31 AM

i think at around 470-500whp you should gurantee 10 sec time slip with slicks.

Pete at XS has right about 500hp at the wheels, and they are doing consistant 10s.

Racer X 03-09-2003 04:55 PM

I think 450rwhp would do it with slicks.Just need to know your car well. That and shifting.Shifting is everything when it comes to racing.

vosko 03-09-2003 05:42 PM

i'd say about 500rwhp.... lets see if i can do it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

TYSON 03-09-2003 05:57 PM

You can do a 10.1 on 540 RWHP.

SPOautos 03-10-2003 12:38 PM

With 450 and some slicks/ET streets you can dip into the 10's consistantly if cut nice 60 foot times.

To break 130 your going to prob need around 500rwhp.

Vosko, we know you can do it - but you have to get ALL the way down the track, in the same car, with no pit-stop.

my car has only not made ONE pass ever. that was because i broke the axle on the launch. besides that my FD has completed EVERY single pass https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

btw, vosko-what's your best 1/4 pass anyways? Gotta vid of it?

Rotaman 03-18-2003 05:51 PM

depends on the setup HP is always the key, you can have a 300hp car running tens and a 400 running 11s so it depends on a million variables

93 R1 03-18-2003 06:56 PM

300hp running 10's? If you have a 1700lb car maybe.

onboost 03-18-2003 09:47 PM

or 1000ft lb of torque and right gearing... hahahaha

93 R1 03-20-2003 06:53 PM

yeah thats true, but I've never seen power output like that except maybe from a diesel? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

onboost 03-21-2003 12:08 AM

hahah,

the WRC rally cars has pretty crazy numbers, like 320hp with 550ft/lb torque, due to the restricters. those things are sick!

Rotaryman88 03-22-2003 11:27 AM

The 2nd gen that Japtrix uses is in the 400whp range and he hooks high 10s all the time....

93 R1 03-23-2003 02:57 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

... 03-23-2003 03:47 PM

Japtrix runs 9's

but uses a Gforce tranny

10.5 on stock tranny

onboost 03-26-2003 11:26 AM

they must have super good traction... and very light car....

ErnieT 03-26-2003 06:45 PM

460rwhp will get you 10's all day.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Im speaking from experience....

IS THAT A RACE SETUP FOR VOSKO AN ERNIE-T ......HEADSUP...ETOWNRACEWAY...LOL...

vosko 05-20-2003 11:53 PM

ernie sold his car and it has gone faster than mine!

Judge Ito 05-24-2003 07:42 AM

If you don't have the ability to control and handle high horsepower, then 460 to 540rwhp is useless. I have seen a good driver run 11.5 with 347rwhp and I have seen an average driver run 12.00 with 460rwhp, both of these cars were 93 Rx7's. I hate to aggree with Ernie, but driving skills are need it.

etown 05-31-2003 06:30 PM

sorry guys, quick question. is the power pulley kit worth it

onboost 06-19-2003 04:32 AM

YES and NO

NO- if making more power is what you are after. The dollar to performance ratio is not worth this purchase.

YES- if you are after the cure for water pump cavitation, accessery longitivity... etc...
