Well, I caught up with an old friend of mine who is now in Texas. We were talking online and sent me his dyno graphs. His car was the first one I ever helped do motor work on back when I was in 10th grade. The car only had 85K on the old motor...

We installed an Atkins SP motor and it is thus far the cleanest intall I've ever been a part of...EVER. I'll see if I can find some old pics of it...

Here are the mods:

SP Motor stock internals - mostly

Bonez DP

Bonez Hi-flo cat

APEXi N1 Duals

HDR Boost controller

S-AFC

720cc secondaries

Clipped turbine by Majestic Turbo

I think thats it for power..he autoXs a lot and had some suspension work done. If I remember any other mods, I'll mention them..like I said this was a long time ago,lol...

Oh..some more info...

It was a 9psi pull @ 98 degrees F...

That image is a screenshot from my laptop's software..if you want to see A/F Ratios, speed, etc...let me know..I'll change it around and do another screenshot....

I'm a little surprised that he didn't get quite a bit more. But if the car is running well and doesn't mind being flogged regularily at autoX then it's all good.

Yea...I was happy to see the HP or torque numbers either...but yea..the car does great on the AutoX..

My belief on the low HP numbers is due to a stock..yes, i said STOCK intake system..still has factory airbox,snorkel,etc...

He needs to free that up to get some better numbers...also, he only went to 7800 and boost 9psi...

As for the torque..dunno, the car should make more then that...any thoughts on why it's low?

In intake would free up a few ponies, but nothing too drastic. I just like having an aftermarket intake for the crisper response. The exhaust might be the plug somehow. It's 2.5" at it's smallest (bottleneck) point, right? I doubt a highflow cat does anything bad for power so that's probably not it. A full 3" setup from turbo to tip might do wonders here. Fuel pump? Can't go wrong with a Walbro 255lph with his setup.

Another thing that surprises me is that it keeps making power up to (and possible beyond) 7.8k rpm. What sort of a port job is on his engine? But hp should be about 50 higher and the torque should be relative to the hp like with the stock numbers. I mean the stock hp is 200 and the torque is 196 so at about 250rwhp he should be around 240ft/lb is the turbo is stock aside from the clipped wheel. There might be more of a difference, but nothing like he has now.

Stock kouki FC's are usuall around 180rwhp or so. Just something to think about. His car has a lot of untapped potential with what it has right now.

I agree mostly. However, w/ an SP motor...going from stock intake to a free flowing filter(cone) setup will free up a lot as I've seen before. He does have the walbro pump...we put that in with the new motor a while ago. The DP is 2.5" all the way back to the APEXi N1 duals...i think the hi-flo cat is affecting the flow more so then it should...he is getting a testpipe soon so we'll see. I do think he should have brought it up to about 8200 at least...it is an awesome port job(Dave Atkins did the work). It's just a mild port though, Dave built my motor too and I went more extended then this motor...so I'm hoping for a better clime on the power curve. Could also be the dyno he used since dif dynos do have dif numbers...i'd like to see a 75 degree day pull too....

More mods I just remembered:

Walbro Pump

MSD 6SA(i think thats right) ignition

silicon hoses

If I remember anything more i'll bring it up...

Ahhhh, I get it. SP stood for street port. When you wrote "SP Motor stock internals - mostly" I thought that was some shop and not the term street port. That's why the power doesn't drop off after 6k rpm or so.

Different kinds of dynos read differently. Altitude and weather play a part too. The dyno can compensate for this usually, but if the conditions aren't ideal then who knows what is really there? I don't care for adjusted numbers. What makes it to the ground at any given point is what matters.

If this setup is working well for him, then he shouldn't mess it up with more power. More power might make his car more of a handful at autoX and his times might drop in some areas.
