Went to visit the car last night. I am VERY impressed with the prep! It should be done next tuesday. I can not wait! So, now I've got to get all my interior work done, and get the mutha assembled.
wow you work fast. I just managed to get the rear subframe and diff back up onto teh car. Any plans on the car? Solo2 maybe? |
Definitely some solos and some drags, but not until after the wedding. I don't want to blow it up before my new bride and I have a chance to do a big smokey in front of the church! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/bigthumb.gif
The interior work will take a while. I have to: 1. Re-do headliner 2. Clean and paint trim as necessary 3. Re-wire dash (converting from S3 to S2) 4. Install stereo (head unit + 6-disk + 4" front + 6×9's rear) 5. Re-carpet hatch Then I just have a little clean up in the motor compartment (re-cut oil cooler hoses, install oil temp gauge, re-route coolant bypass. Plus, I have to re-paint all of the exterior trim. Of course, I have to fit all of this in around the wedding, the job hunting, the moving, and the working! |
Subframe is bolted up and torqued to spec, differential is up and torqued to spec. Damn it's hard putting the diff and subframe up with no help and 3 jacks.
Got the driver side of the rear suspension bolted up. That is it for the night. This weekend is passenger side of rear suspension and then the front control arms swapped with S4 control arms, new ball joints, new bushings, the works, and the bilstein shocks. |
My winter FD projects?
Pretty tame by comparison to some here. Big thing was the Hose Job. Solenoid replacement. Got rid of Double Throttle (with homemade ghetto blockoff plate). Painted major underhood components black. Racing Beat dual tip exhaust. Hi-flow cat. Finally installed a good boost gauge. Got new rims and tires. (SSRs) I got an empty spot on my a-pillar gaugepod tho. Can't decide between a proper water temp gauge or that funky new Uego AFR system. Can't wait for spring and dyno days. |
|
Someone want to explain to me why I should not upgrade my street wheels from the stock S5TII meshies? I can get a second set for 400 cdn and then send them out for 75 each to get them refinished to perfection with new tires for just under 1000 cdn vs spending 2200 on 17inch enkeis and new tires.

ah! another broken bolt. Was tightening the lower bolt on the rear control arms where the triaxial floating up connects to. Tightened it by finger first, then proceeded with the 1/2" rachet, snuged it up. Got out the torque wrench, FSM said between 48 and 69 ft-lbs. Set the torque wrench at 60 ft-lbs. Bolt was getting tighter, waiting for the click. Next thing I felt was, why the hell is the this bolt getting easier to tighten. Then boom, the bolt neither will tighten anymore (it just spins) and I can't reverse it out. I finally managed to undo the nut and bolt with an impact and a breaker bar for the reaction torque, the figging threads stripped.
Am I doing something wrong here? How hard is it to tighten a nut and bolt together... Maybe I should spring for a 5000 dollar digital torque wrench with +/- 0.001 in-lbs accuracy. |
Maybe you shouldn't re-use fasteners...
Missed you at Leigh's on Saturday. Cleaned up all of my interior stuff. Looks brand new. Thank you Mother's Back to Black... Now to re-trim the headliner and visors, paint a couple of the interior pieces, and all of the exterior trim, then wait until Wednesday. Car should be back snug in my garage on Wednesday night, with fresh green paint. I'm tingly with antici pation. |
ya I couldn't make it, I had to fix something on the house for my parents. The kitchen sink faucet valve failed closed and they couldn't use it.
edited for huge spelling mistakes... |
HEY!
I was up to 10 posts! Now I've been slammed back to 8. Damn hackerz! It's as if those pics of the hi-flow cat and the bling gauge never existed... Maybe I should get both gauges. |
hey guys, where could I find a set of jack stands with 18" lift at least?
|
Crappy T
they are 4 ton i think or princess auto |
Door jambs have been shot in. Rest of car should be done today. Hope to pick it up tomorrow after work.
All of the stainless exterior trim has been shot with 3 coats of BBQ black paint (To resist my heat...) Now I just need to find where I put everything, and I can get this mutha re-assembled. Look for pics next week! |
WOW, looks like tons of **** is being done with you guys. Good thing about our winter hibernation "time to fix our babies". Cant wait for sping!!!!!!

Hear an update? HEAR?
How about "Let's SEE an update" |
Yeesh, that's one scary looking tow rig!
Your car looks great in that colour. |

Your car looks great in that colour.
Yup, I almost hit a bus on the way home. Brakes are so much more important than power. Even scarier? The guy I borrowed the dolly from is towing a car down to Florida on it for the $2005 challenge.
damn you guys still have tons of snow, looks great tho
Actually, the pic was taken on Thursday. We're all clear now. Should be 15 tomorrow. |
I don't think the rules state the tow vehicle has to be included in the $2005 dollar budget.
|
if the tow vehicle was a 7 litre power stroker or cummings diesel with dualies that that dolly would be fine... anything else and you are asking for trouble. I'd just use CAA to move it back and forth from teh shop
|
'Couple more for y'all
|
so roughly how much did that cost?
|
Effing bumpers. AFTER I got them BOTH back on, I discovered the easy way to remove them. Oh well... Starting to look like a car again.
I think I am going to do something special for the grille... Oh, and the paint cost around 1800. |

Base, clear, minor filling of dents. Oh, and the paint is a good quality dupont. There is some money to be saved with a cheaper paint, if you chose a non-fading colour.
I dropped the car off as it appeared on the trailer. No glass, no trim, no bumpers, no interior. What would I do different? 1: More stripping than I did. Every clip and fastener left on somehow takes off an area of paint about 2X the size of the clip! 2: Power wash around the door hinges. I didn't clean this area, and neither did the painters. Good thing it's very well hidden. 3: Buy a new lower front valence. Only because mine is mangled. |
Did you completely strip the entire interior as well? Also what about the engine bay? Did they spray the underside of the car with chassis paint?
|
Stripped the interior, since I'm changing it to black.
No paint in the engine bay, since I'll get it done next year when the motor is out. No paint under the car. |
Ordered my personalized plate today. Since it is now mine, and you can't steal it:
