Hello everyone, I am new here.

I have a 93 FD and was wondering where to start when working on my car. I currently only have intake, pulleys, wires, e-manage blue....i think thats it. I have an intercooler that I am going to install soon. My goals are to reach around 350hp but still want a reliable car. I also want to keep the twin turbo setup if possible. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Here's my suggestion:

Pettit ECU (ditch the e-manage)

ASP Medium SMIC

3" Bonez Downpipe

Bonez Hi-flo catalytic converter

Cat-back of your choice (I would recommend the Greddy Ti)

HKS Ignition Amp

Intake of your choice (I would recommend a CAI like from SR Motorsports)

Fluidyne radiator

Greddy Profec boost controller

Aluminum AST

That would be a good reliable setup with some power. However, you need to make sure all the normal maintenance items have been done on your car before going crazy with the mods:

Fuel filter

Pillowball bushings

etc...

thanks for the info. is the e-manage a bad way to go? i can't spend too much right now so i can upgrade later still.

i also live in japan and see several different ignition amps in town. Is there anything specific to look for with these amps? thanks again!

I've always been curious why someone picks a number to associate with a horsepower goal... What exactly does 350HP mean to you? It is just a number - seriously.

350HP in a FD equates to a VERY FAST car. Most others need 400+ to even compare.

So I ask; where does the number 350 come from? I think you should look for quality parts and a reliable car before trying to reach any particular #.

I remember asking the same questions when I got my first FD. I soon realized that numbers mean jack ****.

Mahjik has a great list for you. If you can't afford GOOD PARTS, don't buy anything. Start with reliability modifications when you DO get money. You can search that beat to death topic...

Given your location, replace the Pettit ECU with a Knightsport or RE Amemiya remapped ECU. IMO, that will be a better solution than the e-manage.

As for the ignition amps, the HKS will be more than plenty for a setup like that. The other benefit is that HKS has a harness which makes the amp a direct plug and play install (no wire splicing).

yes, i know 350hp is a lot for a FD. that is why im not asking for like 500hp. (i owned a skyline with 370hp so i am cutting back on the "numbers" because i know i dont need 370 or more in a rx7 to be fast). in the process of trying to reach 350 my car will have gone through some changes that will satisfy me if i cant reach 350. i know i will be happy with less...just trying to aim high

I have plenty of money, just that i recently had a baby and am trying not to spend too much if i dont have to. trying to get the most out of the money i spend. i also have japanese friends who can custom fabricate parts for me if i need to (but i cant just walk up and say "hey, make me a custom exhaust system" without knowing what im looking for). just want to get an idea of what will, can or wont work and then ill go from there.

dont get me wrong, i totally agree with you on reliablilty and will be looking for that, just need a little insight from people's experience with different parts and such.

once again, thanks for the input.

If you're living in japan , you're in heaven mate . You can get anthing you want for tuning an fd. you ' ll find whatever you want from companies specialised in tuning Rotaries like Amemiya , Knightsport , R-magic , panspeed and so on . I am in malta (europe) and i have managed to get most of my tuning parts at crazy cheap prices from japanese auction sites . If you want to change your ecu the best solution is the power fc from apexi from which you can tune real time from the hand held commander plus you have digita, readouts of necessary information like oil and water teperature etc. But you can find out cheap tuned ecus from the companies i have listed above as well as piggy back like the Knightsport EBS3 which is specially made for the FD. The latter will let you set boost entry and level from inside the car using a digital controller . It will then adjust the fuel and oil injection according to the boost level automaticaly Nice piece of equipment for those who are looking for moderate tuning without spending alot of money and its also very easy to install yourself.
