so I need water temperture, boost, fuel pressure for sure right?! what about EGT and air/fuel?! can I just use the air/fuel ratio on apexi autotimer?! is it accurate at all?

well, I am planning on rasing the boost a lil bit in the future, and I want to get the gagues I need all in once, so I can mount them in nicely..

thanks for the suggestions..

You know, I have an EGT and I really never look at it...Possibly cuz I don't know what I should be looking at...I hear normal readings are between 1300°F & 1500°F I just set my max warning to 1500 and never look at it again.

As far as what gauges you NEED, I would say Water Temp first, then Boost right after.

Then after that EGT.
yeah.. i've heard that once it's in the red.. it's too late... lol

Personally I run Defi boost, EGT, and fuel pressure.. I usually have my commander set to monitor water temp, air intake temp, injector duty, and knock with P&H on. I have the commander mounted where it is easy to see while driving, it is really nice to cut down on the number of gauges you need. The A/F meter on the Apex autotimer is junk just like all the other blinky light A/F gagues out there, they only ones worth your $$$ are the wideband gauges that provide their own O2 sensor (usually 5-wire). An EGT is nice to have in conjunction with a wideband for tuning, it becomes very useful when one starts to play with ignition timing/split.

What's the point of fuel pressure, doesn't the gas guage do the same? Would oil pressure be necessary?

<---notices a lot of people aren't mechanically inclined at all...

anyways, get a PowerFC (boost, knock{even tho its worthless} wtr temp, airtmp, timing, rpm), Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure gauge.

The stock oil pressure gauge is junk.. i should know.. mine doesn't work anymore. They read pressure badly and the sending units are junk.

Its good to know your oil pressure, in case you happen to spill your oil on the highway, its getting way too hot.. (ie pressure rising like a ****) or if its in a good stable level.

Boost -.. its obvious...

EGT - like mjw said, its great for tuning.. and its way better than a A/F guage which doesn't do ****, but blink and make some girls loose their panties.. An EGT is used to monitor the temperature of the exhaust gases exiting the manifold.. (ie in your downpipe) the hotter the gasses are, the leaner the fuel mixture you are running, the colder, the richer. As with all A/F you want to have a Stoich mixture, a little more towards the rich side on our cars, since they aren't so forgiving to detonation. You will want to have a downpipe with a o2 bung and EGT bung welded into it when you upgrade your car, until then, an EGT is worthless.

You will find that you will need to learn how to modify your car correctly and which items you should purchase in a set order. I would invest in a downpipe first as well as a catback. Get an intake and ECU, then upgrade your intercooler and keep the boost stock. You'll have plenty of fun with it and keep it running for hopefully a year. If you go any further than that, expect to start shelling out cash.

A midpipe is NOT your friend unless you port your wastegate or have proper fuel.
Hey twinturborx7pete..good info

so I don't really need to get a/f ratio if I got an EGT gague right?1

and did you mean that after downpipe, catback, intake and ECU, intercooler, the car will only run for a year?! if so, what will happend after a year?! that sounds scary...

you can't simplify the EGT hot=lean cold=rich like that. If you can't afford a REAL A/F ie (FJO, techedge etc) don't bother, but the EGT is still worth having. Chances are you won't be doing your own tuning, but its still good to have. I overdid it with gauges, currently have boost, egt, watertemp, oil temp, and oil pressure. the techedge setup ends up being about 500US after you buy the sensor and i am currently saving for that.

LMFAO...not fuel LEVEL, fuel PRESSURE...i.e. line pressure. I had a Supra TT fuel pump in my FD for awhile. I thought I had PLENTY of fuel until I went single turbo(turbonetics 62-1) and Fuel pressure gauge up. When I hit boost, my fuel pressure went DOWN...which means my car was NOT GETTING FUEL i.e. running LEAN...meaning that If I had not hooked up my fuel pressure gauge, I would never have known I was running out of fuel. I then hooked up a walboro low pressure 255lph pump...that didn't do **** either(fuel pressure still dropped), so I went with dual stock FD pumps and now have fuel pressure for days.

I picked up my TechEdge 1.5 wideband kit AND sensor WITH shipping for a total of $320~ Tested it out against a shop wideband and guess what...IDENTICAL READINGS. So...if you want to get a wideband, GET THE TECH EDGE. All that hoopla about it's costly or inaccurate is BULLSHIT. $320~ is cheap compared to the cost of a shop building you a new engine.
