Hey! Hey! He`s back from running the roads! Hope all went well!

About 90% done here. What you see in the photo is still where I am at. Managed to get the downpipe wrapped & on the car as well as that pipe which carries air to the cat from the air pump, hooked up. Got the oil cooler lines hooked up & new radiator hoses installed. Still have to hook up the starter, run the wire harness through the firewall & connect it to the computer, hook up the trans wire harness, put all the plastic & large hoses back in, get the accessories on the engine & install the belts, put the undertray back on & reattach the hood. I figure about a day maybe 2 if I can stay on track. Been slacking the last couple of days. I am just beginning to have clean fingernails again! Want to get the car started next week though & put some miles on it. We will see.

Just thought about something. My engine was running like crap before I pulled it out. If the computer was spitting out error codes for some reason because of it, would they be cleared out now because of the battery being disconnected for so long? Would hate to start up the car in limp mode or something & not know right away why it wasn`t running right. Eek!

Got hit with a wave of motivation last night. Started working on the car about 9 PM. Went all night & watched the sun come up this morning. Only things left to do is get the harness ran back through the firewall, attach the undertray & put the hood back on. Then, off to Autozone to get oil & antifreeze. Sure hope that`s it.

Yes, the ECU should be cleared of codes.

Keep us posted.

Forgot to mention, I am going to take a photo of the engine lube burning off when this thing turns over for the first time. Should be interesting. As I understand it from the Mazda mechanic who bought the motor from Mazda, he loaded it up with Sea Foam before taping the openings shut & setting it to the side. I hope that the skeeters around here have their passports ready.

OK. Verdict on all of the hard work is in.

Verdict is.....I have more work to do.

Fact #1. The car started right up. Smoked some but not as bad as I thought it would. Idles well after warm up. That`s a FIRST since I have had it! On initial startup, wouldn`t go above 5K RPMs. After driving it, the thing will race to 8K out of gear, no problems. Fouled plug I think. Problem solved. Now exhaust is completely clear after the initial "engine preserves" burned off.

Fact #2. Taking it down the road & stepping on it, Builds 4 PSI of boost then falls flat on its face at around 3500 RPMs. Won`t go any higher with foot on the floor. I think there must be something transitioning at that point. Maybe the secondary fuel injectors kick in under load then...don`t know. Hear a slight whoosh sound if I let off of the gas at that point. Sounds like the BOV. Not sure. If I let off of the gas & ease it on up without boost, will continue to climb in RPMs no prob as long as boost doesn`t build.

Fact #3. My car doesn`t smoke like mad anymore. The new engine SEEMS to be fine. Bought it from a guy on EBay. Brand new reman. We all know how that can go. The other turbos I put on the car ( Bought on Ebay also, with 11K stated miles ) don`t seem to be burning any oil either. WHEW!!! That`s a BIG relief!

Fact #4. I am tired & hungry & it has been a very LONG day. I am happy the car runs as it does ALTHOUGH it would have been nice to not have had ANY problems period. I have some pondering & reading to do. Anyone with suggestions who would like to chime in are welcome by all accounts.

Fact #5. No leaks. Fuel, oil or coolant. I am going to put the undertray back on tomorrow & then delve into the mystery world of the rotary.

Seems like it's bascially all good news. The boost issue doesn't sound serious.

Well, checked the fuel pressure coming from the tank. Showing about 74 PSI. FSM states that pressure should be 71 ~ 107. Took the pump assembly out of the tank to look for dirt or a clogged filter bag on the pump & didn`t see anything. Tank is clean which surprised me after 112K miles. Fuel filter was changed 20K miles ago. Have the UIM off right now & took a 9 volt battery & applied voltage to the secondary injectors. Both clicking but don`t know if they were sticking or stuck. I am in the process of putting it back together to see if it will run or not. Sure hope it does.

Took the car down the road & it is doing a little better now. Pulls to 4500 RPM without falling on its face at 3500. I can feel it hesitating past 3500 on into the higher RPMs as the boost level goes up. Still only getting 4 PSI though. When I hit 4500, boost drops to zero. Weird. I wish I had a AFR meter on it. I would bet good money that it is going lean.

Going to bed.
