Sorry I mis-spoke. I guess it's silicone based, not ceramic. At any rate, I bought a can of it to seal my header wrap but it's good to something like 1500 F. Comes in a dull silver or black and available at any of the chain parts stores that carry DEI stuff. I got a can of silver from ADVANCE AUTO. IIRC ~ $8 a can, but it goes pretty far. I painted a downpipe then sealed the wrap and all the shields with one can. With decent prep it sticks pretty well.

FWIW, here's the best photo I could find of what the stuff looks like painted. Just the manifold, but I did all the shields in it, including the motor mount shield....and it still looks pretty much the same, even today.

That looks good! The paint must be pretty heat resistant to have stayed on that long without coming off.

Did you have the waterpump assembly & other parts on the front of the engine chromed or are they polished out? Looks pretty snazzy!

Yeah, it's good to 1500 F., so far the heat doesn't seem to bother it at all and my shields were getting pretty nasty.

Stuff on the motor is just polished. It was less than I thought to have it done and it turned into one of those "What the hell" moments while I had everything apart. Besides, I was guarranteed at least 30 hp per piece. So I figure about 500 whp now on stock twins.

LOL! May just polish EVERYTHING on my motor then if I can get more HP by doing it! Hehehe!

Will admit it looks good though. Is your engine ported or did you just do a simple rebuild when you had it all apart?

Stock ports, but otherwise it was a pretty comprehensive rebuild...all new OEM hard seals and springs, all new soft seals, all four bearings, FPD, injectors cleaned, all new gaskets, lines etc. Even sprung for brand new housings though mine were still in pretty good shape.

I would have liked to have done a street port, but felt it was a little above my abilities. With no rotary specialty shops closer than about 10 hours away I would have had to ship everything out. I was a little nervous doing that, especially with the new housings so......

What the hell, a sub-five second (0-60) car is still fast enough for this fossil.

I think 0-60 in under 5 is still very quick for anyone! I have a street ported motor in the 83 & find I have too much fun putting my foot in it too often. Read lousy gas mileage here. With the 94, the reman motor will be fine for me. I don`t really need or desire it to be an asphalt eater. I just want to get it back on the road again & be able to cruise around with the top open & enjoy some tunes while running the roads when I decide to do that. Been over a year or more I have wanted to tear it down & do all of the work to it. Looking forward to getting it all done. Will be nice to be able to drive it without appearing to be in need of a firetruck following me around!

Got ahold of djseven today. He is going to look through his stuff to see if he can find a turbo heat shield for me. He thinks he may have one. That will be good. We`ll see. Got the primary turbocharger aligned & mounted tonight. Putting off bolting everything solid until I can get my hands on the shield & then off to the next chapter in the manual.

Exactly. I built mine for longevity, not the dyno or bragging rights.

The boy-racers where I live know what I do for a living so they don't try....but I'm pretty sure they know I'd beat most of them like a rented mule anyway.

That`s what I am mainly after too. I could build the car for large amounts of HP but why? I know what happens with too much boost on an engine. HP goes up, lifespan goes down. It isn`t worth it to me. I DON`T want to have to pull this motor again for a VERY LONG time, if ever.

Hehehehe! Gotta love these cars! I have had a reckless driving ticket driving a Honda CRX Si back in 91. Got it for just spinning my tires coming out of a parking lot. Was a bad night too with girlfriend at the time plus I had had a couple of beers at the bar I was leaving. Cop told me he could have taken me to jail. Wrote me up instead. I don`t want another one of those citations! They suck!! Won`t even go into what happens to your car insurance when you get one. Point I am trying to make with all of this is, if I had a car with 500 HP under the hood, I would have to use it occasionally. Just couldn`t see not. Cops around here are using laser more & more too. Radar detector won`t do much for ya when they are using that stuff either. If you have laser detection on the unit, just lets ya know you got a ticket. I am too old to go to jail & don`t want to have an accident and hurt someone else on the road either. Soooo, think I will keep my car near stock and as reliable as one can to an extent with these cars, keep the exhaust note relatively quiet without making it sound like I added a "fart pipe" to it & avoid the urge to wind the needle all the way "around the clock" on the speedometer. Doesn`t mean I am going to drive like a little ol lady though all of the time either! Hehehe!

Djseven came through on the heat shield I needed last night.

Found some of that high temp paint at Advance Auto today. Spent most of the afternoon sandblasting the rust off of the shield pieces, painting & then baking the pieces in the oven. That is one of the reasons I still have the windows opened tonight as I type all of this. Had a really good odor going earlier today coming out of the kitchen. Good thing I ain`t married. Wife would have never gone for it. The paint I bought is actually a ceramic paint. Was about 8 bucks for the can. Silver color. Looks good & the turbocharger is now mounted & most of the lines hooked up. Ran into another snag though. Knew I would need a couple extra locknuts after the studs they were on stripped. I ordered some awhile back to replace the bad ones. Pulled them out of the pack tonight to finish the turbo installation & found out that Mazda ordered engine locknuts instead of the manifold stud locknuts. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....always something. Might hit the hardware store tomorrow & see what they have. Seems like I did see some metric locknuts over there the last time I went. If I order them from Mazda, it would more than likely be next week before I got them. I really think I could have the engine back in the car by the weekend if I could do a couple of full days on it. Not much left really. Providing I don`t hit any other snags....................

Threw in a few pics on this post. Wasn`t planning on it but did on a whim. Added one of the 83 I did back in the early 90s. Love the car but it sure doesn`t handle like the 94.
