I've searched a lot of threads already, but nothing seems to work for me yet. My car was taken to the tracks and after the second run, my car started to shake violently at idle. There was also a rythmic ticking noise (possibly a shot catalytic converter.) The car idles with less vacuum pressure then before (-32 cmHG now versus -46 cmHG when it was running good). Ive also noticed that I get disgusting gas mileage now (somewhere around 8 mpg under normal driving conditions). Since then, Ive had the spark plugs and wires replaced and nothing has changed. Now the car is very hesitant to return to idle. It will sit at about 2000 rpm's for 5-10 seconds before it returns to idle (around 800 rpm) Also, with the clutch disengaged, if you give it a little gas, the shakes go away and the vacuum pressure increases. Ive heard that it might be a wiring problem. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the plugs out from each rotor in turn. Pull the main injection fuse under the hood. Crank the motor over and listen for 3 good whoosh noises from each rotor.

Anything abnormal means dead motor.

If that's ok, do a cooling system pressure test. This will check the condition of your coolant seals/housings. If they are a problem you should have noticed the engine heating up and possibly spitting coolant out of the overflow.

Try these first then start looking for other problems. Can't think of any offhand that it could be with your symptoms.

Sorry to be the possible bearer of bad news....
