I've been VERY happy with my V mount. It's a rotary extreme kit. Very https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bling.gif

I haven't been able to enjoy it because my motor go boom...

It sure does look nice though...

On the last trip my car took, I was very happy with the cool temps. Also for the first time my IC and rad were very cool to the touch. It's a little more $ but I thought it was worth it. Pic is in my gallery.

Thanks Chuck https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683827.gif

Thanks for the support. Your car looks very nice. I hope you get your engine fixed so you can enjoy the v mount more and test it out during hot days.

If the ambient temp never goes above 70F, the front mount IC will work just fine but if it gets hotter than that, you should consider a v mount.

I have made and used stock mount IC, custom apex front mount IC, and v mount IC. I found v mount to perform the best in terms of cooling both the water temp and air temp. Why would I put it on my own car if it doesn't work? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

How many of you have tried all 3 kinds of setups?

I found it, I kinda forgot that you had the 99 spec stuff and the rims were painted, but you get my point. This bitch is mean LOL.

It's saying, "**** fool, you must be crazy wanting some of this!"

You do know that the stock FD fans don't come on until 95/100/105C. You weren't overheating. Your power FC had that built into it. Only way to change it is to get a datalogit and turn the fans down.

I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER had overheating problems with a FMIC. Proper ducting and a fan temperature set at 85C. I NEVER have cooling issues.

i set my power fc to have the fans come on at 80 degrees and i was still having probs. i could see how it would get pretty damn hot. stock front bumper with that small opening. fmic partialy exposed, behind that is the a/c condensor then the fluidyne rad. i just hope that prob goes away with the new mazdaspeed gtc kit.

I have RE V-Mount, and am very happy with it, my temps on the hottest I've seen in desert valley air, going hill/mountain climbing, boosting all the way was 190 on my aftermarket temp sensor, plumbed into the water pump after the thermostat... that way it gets true waterjacket readings....

On Non-hot dry days it gets 180-185... anf frankly last weekend, was the first time since owning the v-mount that saw temps above 185... and I was shocked, and then I realized I still had 22 degrees before water boiled and 30 some before the stock fans normally would come on... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The IC the jury is still out, it seems to work great with non vented hood, allthough I have a vented one, it needs some restoration after the last vehicle it was on....

<------ https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png But the temp drop across it is immense... it's too hot to touch on one side, and the coolenst thing under the hood on the other....

Given the cost, I've seen ellaborate FMIC setups, that take a lot of cutting and fabrication, this ones leaves the nose stock, and gives you a free TRUE Cold Air Setup as well...

Also whomever said that it's more cramped with the V-Mount is smoking something vicious, have you seen the stock setup ??? This is far less crowded, and I have no troubble getting at hoses and belts... I think it makes it easier....

Depends on which FMIC you're using.... i'm using an HKS FMIC as a V-mount.... VERY VERY tight fit, but i love the damned thing https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif have pics if you need them.

better idea of the size and fit...... by the way. I'm using a Mazdaspeed GT-C nose w/ monster sized radiator opening and a vented hood

Yeah, i think they come with the bumper when you order original.

dcrosby 03-31-2004 04:29 PM

It's cramped cause he's got more room allocated for Oil Filters, IC and supporting fittings, than for the engine itself... try doing the same thing in a piston driven engine.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I don't really understand how you can call that a v-mount.. Maybe because the radiator sits at an angle, and it still forms a v... but to me that's a horizontal mount ...

Chuck.... THAT is why i'm broke!!

As far as it being a V-mount, Yes, the radiator is flipped and positioned into a V configuration with the I/C. You can vaguely see what i mean in the pic (enclosed) I used the space that i had... it's not really as craamped as it looks. pop a few Q/D fittings and a few couplers.... and whole unit comes out w/ enough room to have a picnic in front of the engine. (great for mid-project snacks!)

The lenses come with the original GT-C noses.

Chuck,

Check out 9Base3's AST mounting. I'd like my AST mounted that way for my VMIC setup.

Vmounts look nice and I am sure that they work just as well as any other IC. But they cost so much, i don't belive that they are worth the cost. But hey it's not like we don't all waste cash on **** we dont really need. FMIC gets my vote.

Fd3BOOST 06-09-2004 11:06 PM

BTW, GreyGT-C Nice color choice on your car.

SevenX 06-12-2004 11:15 PM

I'm with FD3'sboost, its just too expensive. And as noted earlier ,with proper ducting a FMIC will work fine. And for those like myself who have removed the A/C and looped the P/S rack, you have even more air flowing for you since the A/C condensor and P/S colling line are not blocking any of your airflow.

Does anybody have pics of Japanese track car intercooler setups?

Chuck I want to add that I think your v-mount is a great product, and those who can afford it should jump all over it. Especially for those who want to, or stilll have their A/C, P/S or stock front bumper.

Great job! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Thanks. I know the vmount is expensive compared to other IC setups. I try to reduce the prices by running a group buy right now. If you are interested, you can go to the group buy section and check out the prices.

Gorgeous FD's. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

A majority of these cars have Vmounts. With less than five of these cars with FMIC.

BNA_ELLIS 06-13-2004 03:11 AM

I used to be a smic diehard but I guess that was just ignorance. I heard people mention radiator cooling problems with a fmic so that whyI stuck with the re-amemiya (basically greddy)smic. would work welel when cool but let it heat soak it was crap. Went front mount never had high intake temps again. I think some work better than others for allowing air to flow through to the radiator. I currently use the greddy 3 row and have no problems. My new car I just purchased has a knightsports vmount setup so when it arrives from Japan I can see how it fairs to the fmic. I don't think there will be any difference as my fans are set to 84 on my datalogit anyway. I think this is more of a an issue if there is one with people who don't have a datalogit.
