Ive got almost 40k miles on my rebuilt twins. They'll last. But they smoke and leave oil all through my intake system.

As the guy who works on your car, and the one who sold you the turbos, let me try and explain my theory and see if others on the forum would agree.



To sum up your problems with the turbos, both the front and rear turbos are leaking oil badly shortly after I installed them.



A day or two after installation you stated that there was no longer a "feeling that I'm going back in time". I told you you probably had a boost leak and you needed to get a boost guage and to physically inspect for leaks. You got a guage a week or so later and this confirmed that you were not making over 2 psi. I again instructed you that your needed to find the leak and not to run the car into boost. After several calls and stating that you could not find a leak, you stopped by the shop. In 15 seconds I found a 2+ inch split in the crossover tube to IC accordian pipe.



So, what does this all mean?



Turbos are driven by exhaust pressure. The wastegate decreases that pressure, and hence the speed the turbines are spinning, by diverting the exhaust flow. The wastegate is controlled by the pressure created by the compressor side of the turbo. If you are only supplying 2 psi to the wastegate actuator, the wastegate will not open. If the wastegate does not open, the turbines will spin uncontrollably and as fast as the exhaust velocity can posssibly spin them.



Now, You were driving with a VERY large hole in the sytem, meaning that both turbos were being overspun for at least the two weeks between when I installed them in your car, and I found the leak.



When I removed the turbos to see why they were puking oil, the rear had oil coming from both the compressor and turbine side. The front had no visible leaks, and the shaft play was very minimal. Remember, I told you that the front one looked ok so I only replaced the rear turbo. After I reinstalled them, your oil situation returned. Now, the front is leaking badly.



The only way I know to blow both turbos simultaneously is by overspinning them. Anyone else have a theory on this?

well having a boost leak is hard on the turbos, and rebuilt turbos with these seem to be hit or miss anyways, mostly miss....

Welp he (Rotarded) pulled them off and saw that the front turbo was just spewing oil. Not sure if i'm doing the over spinning since I don't have anymore vaccum leaks (that i'm aware of anyways) so we'll see what's happening with my car now.



Can't wait to get my damn single and port work etc done by the end of this year. So many random little things I need to do with her it's daunting at times.
