you wanted to run 18 psi (safely) on stock twins? Thats a good deal out of their range.... while i think the PFS unit isn't worth the money, you already have it installed. Run the twins at 14 psi and when you want more power.... go to a set of BNRs or get a single turbo. Thats when you need to start worrying about bigger and better IC's.



Also, a vented hood would help your cooling issues more than swapping from the PFS to the Greddy IC.

Thanks a lot...and yeah when i plan on upping the boost...i already have plans for swapping to bigger twins...but thanks for your imput i wasnt too clear on that i guess...but yeah the only reason i have the PFS is cuz the guy i bought the car put it on...and i am in the process of getting a new hood....just hard to find one i like....anyone know a good spot? sorry i have been outta the loop for the past 5 months

That's not exactly true. The IC is there to cool the charged air from the turbos. In most cases, the stock twins generate much more heat than a single turbo; therefore the efficiency of the IC doesn't need to be as great. In the ideal setup, you'd want your IC piping to be as short as possible while still providing the best charge temps you can.

at 14 psi.... MOST of the SMICs are gonna perform nearly the same.they are huge heatsinks in a hot engine bay. In the past 10 years of owning my FD i've ran every IC available almost.... yes, you will pick up a few hp here and there with different setups.. but until you start running higher boost, you're not gonna notice it that much. For what you'd spend on another IC... i'd rather have meth/water injection.

Its more than just "higher boost". As I mentioned, it's matching the turbo(s) to the IC and the boost level being run. Simply saying "Above 14 PSI requires a FMIC" is just flat wrong without qualifying what that 14 PSI is run on. I'll guarantee you that 14 PSI on most single turbos won't produce the same amount of heat as 14 PSI on the stock twins will produce. Therefore, the work of the IC is less (as its not going to cool less than ambient temp). Just because the turbo is larger doesn't mean it requires a larger IC for charge cooling. It's almost the opposite (to a degree) since the larger turbos don't work as hard to produce similar power.

we ARE talking about him running stock turbos... UNTIL he runs something *OTHER* than stock turbos at reasonable boost levels....

Nope. I'm not sure if Mike is on here or not, but he usually goes by Red-Rx7.
