Ok, so as soon as my car was hooked up with a Haltech the speedo stopped working. I didn't do the Haltech (didn't even own the car then).

Can anyone help me narrow down what to look for? I'm reading through the Haltech manuals now.

I don't know much about how FD speedos are hooked up. If someone wants to give me the low down on that then I'll check there first.

Thanks,

Kevin

arent fd's speedo's mechnical (cable driven), if it is, pull off the gauge cluster and see if the cable is attached or broken. im not sure if its cable though.

no cable. electronic speedo sensor. It goes from sensor on trans, to ECU to dashboard. Hard to say what to check first, since you don't know if the speedo worked befor the haltech was put in

Somebody probably cut the speedo wire when they were installing the Haltech. It comes through the firewall with all the engine wires that the Haltech harness replaces.

Look for plug X-14. It's got 14 pins, 1 of which is not used. It's located close to where the main engine harness comes through the firewall above your passenger's feet.

The speedometer wires are yellow / red & yellow / white on one side, and they mate with green & orange wires respectively. Be careful, as the yellow / red & yellow / white wires are used on either side of the plug.

If that plug didn't get removed by the Haltech installer you should be golden. Hook em back up and your speedo should work.

PS. This of course assumes that your other gauges work?

Lost mine again after buying anew one. I think the exhaust pipe radiates so much heat the the silicone used inthe end of the sensor melts. I just changed it and it worked fine but the stuff has melted out again. Sometimes my tranny oil is dark do to the heat transfer.

They do.

But they don't get lighted when the lights come on (factory illuminator). Which could be a bad grounding or just not hooked up right. I'm going to check that while I'm under there.

Think the two are related? I don't.. but I'm still new at this.

Thanks peeps,

Kevin

there is a ground in that connection that needs to be made or it will not work. another posibility (for tach, not sure if this is working or not) is that the conection on the ignitor was not spliced back in when the haltech was installed.

Tach works, speedo doesn't.

So, this could be as simple as a ground on the Haltech side?

Where do the wires from the speedo go? Through the dashboard to the Haltech hook up, or to the engine bay and then back to the Haltech?

This car needs an electrician, but I'm only good with wrenches.

I'm not following you relative to the Speedometer problem that kkw4p has, but you might want to look into some header wrap for that bad boy if it's turning your transmission oil to goo.

the dash harness conector has a ground in it that when the ecu side of the connector is stripped from the OEM ecu is no longer grounded. from memory, (its been a while) its a solid black wire a little thickerthan the others in the middle of the pins.... i could be wrong, but i remeber my cluster didnt work the first time i did a haltech install on an FD due to this oversight.
