After my experience with 2 dealers, I have to agree 100% with Bacon and Dowd. Thanks for the advice guys! I have a pretty good shop now I'm working with in Sacramento. Latest news is that the turbo is fine and there is a metal pipe that is leaking. My shop is installing a used pipe that is in good condition and is going thru the whole turbo set up replace hoses and whatnot. These guys are honest at least and didn't think I needed to replace the turbo (unless they find another leak in the actual turbo housing). So looks like I'll be on the road soon. If it comes down to turbo replacement, I've pretty much decided on converting to a better aftermarket system but will cross that bridge . . . etc.

Appreciate all the tips on used turbos but looks like I won't need to go that route. Yeah those dealers are really something aren't they? What a weenie I was in the first place to even think they'd help me out. :dontgetit:
Yes, the dealer is NOT your friend, unless your friends like to screw you.

I should have included this in my last post but I was in a hurry.

I agree with everyone 10000000%, avoid the dealer at all cost!!!!!! They will screw things up worse, I'm suprised they didnt want to do your engine as well. Hey while we have the turbos off we might as well replace the engine.

When I went to the dealer I had to fight with them that my car was a 95 because they didnt think they were imported in 95.

The only thing I go to the dealer for is to change my fuel filter. I really just want them to put up with that hell.

I really doubt anything is wrong with you turbos, you probably just need to replace some coolant lines and go on.

Later,

STEPHEN

Ok, finally got the word from my *new* mechanic (not the dealer). I can pick my car up on Fri. They had to remove the turbo and put in a used coolant metal pipe off another turbo he had lying around. Turns out the Turbo was fine and was actually brand new. Apparently the prev owner had replaced the turbo with a brand new one! He must have gotten screwed by the dealer as well to my benefit. The bad news is that with all the labor in removing and re-installing the turbo its gonna cost me $1000 from my new mechanic + the $152 the dealer charged me for basically nothing more than trying to tell me I needed to replace the brand new turbo with another brand new turbo. The cause of the leaky pipe? Apparently when the old pipe was installed it wasn't tightened properly and began to leak and became corroded as a result. I'm just glad I decided not to listen to the dealer and had the car picked up by the new mechanic. By the way their name is "Mazdas Plus" in Sacramento. It's funny but with all I've learned about how common knowledge it is about the awful service at the dealer, I can see how just me showing up there with my 3rd gen was showing how green I was. Might as well have walked up to the service mgr there with "SUCKER" tatooed across my forehead.

Think God for forums. I know the forums have helped me over the last few years. Most people really have no clue how bad the dealer really is, they just go in and take it up the ***. The dealers motto is replace it no matter what, and charge as much as possible. I wonder if the dealer installed that new turbo and messed up the pipe? Maybe it could be a warranty claim.

Good Luck with your car

Thumbs up

Probably the dealer did screw it up. But oh well, since the car was bought on ebay and shipped from TX, I don't think I'll be driving from CA to TX anytime soon to investigate the warranty claim. Probably isn't transferable to a new owner anyway. But was a good thought. Can't wait to get the car back again. Already been without it for 1 wk end and I'm going thru withdrawals now.
