does anyone know if this works and if it is difficult. i would love to have a sixth gear.

 

After all the broken RX8 trannies I have been reading about I don't think I would want one in my car. Hell i barely use the 5 gears I have. **** with the gears as tall as they are you can take 4th all the way to 120 with no problems. 5th gear is a waste as is. Why the hell would you want another useless gear? Thats my observation anyway..

 

agreed, if you look around the rx8 forums People are busting those trannys left and right. Put some real FD power to one and it is sure to shatter

 

it's a miata box AFAIk, so it's no surprise that it's weak.

 

yeah its the 6 speed miata tranny. oh and its a ton more work to drive on the street! 6th gear is lower than the fd's 5th, so it spins faster on the freeway, basically you're in 6th at 40mph, so instead of being in 3rd in like the fd, you have to shift 3 more gears in the rx8. the rx8 tranny is wonderful on the track though, theres a gear for every corner

 

I wonder wtf they plan on doing when they release the mazdaspeed supercharged 8. I can't imagine that they will keep the same trans. I can see it now all the 04 rx8 owners will be swapping over to 05 or 06 trannies.
