RX-7 emergency
#1
My friend is driving back from home to school right now in this 94 RX-7 and called me to ask if I know why when he presses the accelerator to where he normally hits boost the engine bogs and he gets a check engine light. He says that it almost feels like the car is stalling. He just had the engine rebuilt and has a 1 year warranty on it. Any thoughts? Should he pull over and get it towed?
I am thinking air flow sensors, or fouled plugs, but I don't know much about his car.

the check engine light is the first clue. its prolly ok to drive, just dont try and boost it.
there are several things that will cause a check engine light and a limp home mode. the limp homes wont let you have any boost

Have him check the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor. It's on the firewall, right behind the throttle body. It's a little black box taht say pressure sensor on it. Check the electrical connector and the vacuum line connections. If it is disconnected it will make the car bog on boost and push lots of black smoke out the back.

Thanks everyone.
I will tell him about that hose to check. His car doesn't blow smoke at idle but every time he really hits the gas it just shoots smoke everywhere; before his motor was rebuilt it would do it only the first time he would hit the gas on that drive. Also, his the sound of his turbos are more prevalent since his rebuild, almost sounds like a leak but it sure pulls like a beast. Could this sound be an indicator of failing turbos?
