every ounce and a while, my rpm gauge will read about 300 rpms high at idle and by red line, it's reading 1800 to high, this was confirmed with my pfc commander..

then i'll notice a small bounce in the needle and it will be fixed..

is there a wire i can check or something? is it the gauge itself?

3000rpm idle at start up is the accelerated warm start system. You can eliminate it if you want.

I have never seen a guage read at red line though unless it actually was at redline.

no, while i'm driving, the tach might say 4k rpms, but my commander says like 3300 rpms, the higher the rpms, the more it reads to high.. then sometimes it reads normal. what i'm saying is that the tach is messed up!

yea i've seen the problem of tachs being a little off to a lot off. Best advise it will cost you $X to get a used or nex guage plus putting it in then going to the DMV and telling them to change it in thier system. i've never see the sensor go bad but i have seen some that have been beat up and not the best connection in the world. do what you think is best.

Get an aftermarket tach that is the same size as stock. Take old tach out, put new tach in.

Probably costs less than getting a stock tach.

My car does this also but it reads right at 1000 rpms to high consitantly when it does mess up. I noticed it does it when there is a lot of humidity in the air like after it rains. Other than that it works fine.
