When did that happen?
when i first started the car i figured all the smoke was the quart of atf i put inside the engine. well i drove the car to ito's shop which is like 10mins away. temp is ok then boom hits the top of the guage the last line. then POP EGI FUSE. i swap in the AC fuse. get approx 1 mile from ito's then POP goes the fuse steal another fuse. get it to ito's check it out. look at the radiator hmmm NO COOLANT! ito hooked up a few vacuum lines i did wrong. i'm so pissed i have zero luck. filled up the water. on the way home temp gauge pegged after a few minutes and **** LOADS of smoke. coolant seal is dead this is the exact same crap my FD did when i bought it. i'm sooo happy right now
Yeah, that sounds alot like bad coolant seals. I STILL have to get the parts together for a new motor. I think I'm going to use new rotor housings.
the ONLY good about this jspec is the compression. it pulls like a bat out of hell but also smokes like a bat out of hell
If you're EXTREMELY lucky then you may be able to get away with buying 8 water seals, but that depends on the exact cause of the leak.

I'm doing it in spirit. I'm not doing the engine for Rob until Monday. So I'm going to "attempt" to swap the TII rear, transmission, etc. into the 91 over the weekend.

It is normal for all cars to smoke when they are started when it is cold. The cat has to heat up before it's components can react. It's all in chemsitry. It just has to overcome the activation energy for the reaction to properly take place. Hence the name of a cat catalytic converter a catalyst is something that speeds up the reaction rate or flow of a reaction. A cat is doing what mother nature would eventually do. To do that it needs to be hotter.

P.S. Sorry for the chemistry lecture.
