Probley A Stupid Question But , Downpipe Glowing

i may be completely wrong on this one cause i cant remember for the life of me but, isnt there an o2 sensor in the dp? and while you where installing it you could have damaged it it happens sometimes. check engine light on? uhm coulld be you cat's combs inside falling apart clogging the exhaust fumes. that would be some of my guesses....

when i turned the wheel the idle dropped, yes im sure its not the knock sensor, look under your elbow and you'll see a sensor in the powersteering pump, that sensor if not connected can put the car into a saftey timing map, i believe its because if the powersteering dies maybe it could affect the crank pulleys and hurt engine ? i don't know but i haven't drivin it yet to see if it still bogs, i will let you guys know when i do drive it
oh by the way, i got the PS info from page G-17 of the 93 shop manual, maybe im wrong about the timing map but i believe thats what its trying to say..

I've heard of the precat glowing but not a DP. It might not be a clogged cat ( not that it isn't or can't be). Are you sure you are burning all your fuel? ...and why didn't you heat coat the DP?

You mentioned that it happened right when you started the engine...have you waited to see if it goes away after warm up?
I have the same symptom...the ECU likes running rich at idle, which leads me to believe why the DP glows at start-up. After a few minutes it goes away. I first thought that I had a clogged cat until I actually disconnected it two weeks ago for a different reason and realized it was fine.
