Probley A Stupid Question But , Downpipe Glowing
#1
yea my downpipe was glowing about 2-3 min after i turned on my car. i shut it off right away , it wasn't even done with the AWS cycle (still idling at about 1,250 rpm). whats the chances this is a problem with the cat
edit: forgot to mention, its a pettit 3" stainless steel downpipe, brand new. and i was having a problem with my car being EXTREMELY boggy and not accelerating

i really don't know if im burning all my fuel or not, im still running the stupid stock ECU until i get a extra grand to get a PFC so i really can't tell much right now, but yea im not fully sure whats going out with the fuel

i heard possibly the AWS can make a aftermarket cat heat up to actually glowing because its job is to heat up the precat anyway, i restarted it and let it idle for about 10 min (not letting the AWS come on by starting it in gear) and it didnt glow again.. but i still think the cat is somewhat clogged , but theres no way in hell im spending 300 for a new one so.. ill just have to wait to get the PFC before i drive it
hmm i wonder if im getting a low idle because the airpump is trying to pump air into a clogged *** cat

You can have an aftermarket cat' one welded on to the stock piping. If the AWS is malfuctioning, get block off plates from k2rd. When my distrubtor failed on my Honda the cat' glowed like a charcoal brick and cost me two cat's (one after the other). The fuel was burning in the cat. Is your cat glowing to or just the DP?

Arright just a scenario from personal experience. With my Integra, my cat completely melted down one day without me knowing. I started my car the next day and in a minute I smell burning metal. I look under the car and my headers all the way back to the cat itself was glowing orange. The cat looked fine. I gave it gas and little ***** of red hot melted catalyst mesh began to fire out of my exhaust. I was lucky I didn't do any damage besides the cat, but it just kinda sounds like your situation may be related to mine. Good luck!

ah ha, i believe i found my problem, you guys know the sensor on top of the powersteering pump ?well the connector got ripped off and i just noticed it, and i read in the FSM that that sensor can actually put the car into a safe timing map. so i undid the negative, reset the ECU and so far its idling at like 1,200 and getting a 18lb vac , **** i hope this was my problem

if i dont touch lights, it idles at 1,200 at a 18lb vac, if i turn the lights on it idles at 1k - 900 at a 16 lb vac, if i then turn the lights off and DONT touch throttle it idles at 750 at a 14lb vac, but when i rev it up to like 3k it goes back down to a 1,200 idle and a 19 lb va c, i mean i dont care, a 19lb vac is sweet and as long as it drive without bogging im in the clear now i just cant believe the ps would put the car into a timing map retard ..
