Don't use a gasket. Silicone rtv works much better.

are you referring to the oil pan or the front cover? or both?

Guys to change the front cover gasket. I need to remove the P/S pulley and A/C pulley to remove the pumps, right? could I just move these out of the way without disconnecting the hoses..

I also need to remove the oil pan right?

water pump housing..

When I pull out the front cover does the bearings, spacers, and etc... stays in the shaft?

what else do I have to worry about?

If anyone have done this could do a write up that would be great...

Thanking everyone in advance...

Be very careful when you pull the front cover. To get the front cover off you have to remove the front pulley, which loosens everything behind it- dizzy drive(MOP drive, oip pum drive, counterweight and spacer). If you let the E shaft move with the pulley loose, you can move the spacer and needle bearings and quite often the needle bearing closest to the front stationary geardrops down and gets pinched up again when you put it back together. You'll know by the whining noise from the front of the motor and excessive e shaft movement.

Best way if you don't want to take all the bits off is to lock the flywheel in place so that it can't move forwards or backwards.

I've leanrt from experience! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif (but you learn real quick!)

oip pum

Umm, that's dyslexic code for oil pump...

Hey, I've had a few beers... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Oh and yeah, I agree RTV is the only way to go especially on the FD oil pan- throw the gaskets away!

could I remove the front cover with the OMP still attach?

Yup

I started last night.

drained the oil

two 14mm nut from the motor mount is off

loosend what i could of the six 17mm holding the motor mount to the oil pan.

battery is off intercoler is off

tried loosening the P/S pump with the betl still attach just to see if I could but to no avail. the engine turns with it.

what is the best way to lock the fly wheel in place?

Do I have to remove the water pump assy'?

WishIhadaRX7 08-05-2003 08:35 AM

you need to modify a bar that's about 2-3 feet long and bolt it to your flywheel so it can act against the ground as you loosen the nut

And make sure that flywheel does not budge! You can screw up a ton if it does.

another question?

could I jack up the engine by placing a jack under the tranny with out taking the bolts off of PPF?

also keep in mind I'm doing this while the engine is still in the car. So how do I attach a bar in that small access area underneath the clutch/flywheel?

thanks guys!

OK

P/S and a/c is out of the way. Oil pan bolts are out. having a hard time removing the oil pan. tried rotating it 180 deg. but it seems like the baffles are hitting the oil pick up line.

any idea?
