Non rotary power?
#1
Hi Guys, sweet website you've got here. Just wondered if you could help me out a little. I've just done a feature for Max Power UK about an RX-7 with a Chevy V8 transplant. I'm looking to do a box out on other non-rotary engines that have been put into the 3rd Gen RX-7. Does anyone know of any - what the engine was or who the company that did it were would be great. Hope you can help.

on a personal note i think any other motor then some sort of a rotary in an rx7 or 8 or any rotary powered vehicle is sacrilegious and a disgrace to the rota community.

yea I can understand people being afraid of dealing with the rotary motor as it is based on a entirely different idea than a reciprocating motor. but in my pinion the rx7 just isn't an rx7 without a rotary motor. If you want a good chassis to build a v8 powered platform go buy and an old vw beetle or a fiero. the rx7 in all generations are a piece of art. no offense though I'm a v8 fan too but its like putting a grandnational v-6 motor in an nsx.

Totally understand. Going to school in the midwest all i can say is that everyone here feels that a car isn't a car unless it has a fat V8. Personally i don't find it sacrilegous, just perhaps ruining the balance of the car and removing what makes it so unique.

Personally, I'm a rotary guy..
V8? well, I would do it if I were to drive my car as a daily and want some torque. But to mod, well, any car thats been modified will have their own issues. Rotary just has a bad stereotype about them but if you mod them right, they could make ton of reliable power.
Its whatever you want to do..
