as of mow, my car is having the engine ported etc etc ( all internal mods ). my goal is to improve everything in the rx7, without overdoing one aspect aka, no single turbo. my drivetrain is somewhat improved already over stock ( when i bought the car ). my next options include, upgraded twins, v-mount ic system, engine management system, upgraded fuel system, or a combination of two. after asking my friend he brought up a good point, when should the fuel system be upgraded? and what should be done to the system at that point?

coud i upgrade the twins with a ported motor and keep the stock fuel system, or should i buy a haltek or power fc and get what i have now tuned with a new fuel system?

i think the safest thing would be to get the fuel and fuel management first and if you're getting the upgraded twins soon after just run it off the bas emaps until you have the new twins, at which point then you should get it tuned...or see if whomever is giving you the twins has a pfc tuned map available for you.

Why bother upgrading twins when you can go with any of the smaller single turbo's. What are you reasons for not wanting to go with a single. Cause really if you have a ported motor and everything else that goes along with it, the only thing left to do is single turbo. Its less complicated, less heat, weight, more power, more reliable and ect.....

Well if you're gona go and upgrade everything else you are already looking at a lot of money. You will already have the fuel system/management system for the single turbo. The only added money is the difference in cost between upgrading twins and a single turbo kit. With the kit you can actually elimininate certain mods you would normally get like, downpipe, intake kit, and the cost of upgraded twins. Plus you can sell the twins. Its not hard to make the conversion at all.

Keep your stock twins, dont follow the fads with the upgraded twins. Unless you have a big wallet.

Your gonna need at least a walbro or some other fuel pump for your ported engine.

I would also at the very least get a programmed ECU. Go ahed with a PMC,PFC,Haltec/TEC III if you have the means

You can go up to some 1600cc secondaries. But I think on stock twins your good on just the pump.

But you will just have to keep an eye on your duty cycle and keep it under 90% or 85% to be safe.

If it gets above that definitely upgrade the injectors.

But i'm actually kind of straying from your original question. You asked when do you need to upgrade the fuel system. Typically after 3 mods....like downpipe, catback, intake. Once you go past that point you will want to upgrade your ecu, several choices there. After you begin to mod a little more and push more boost after adding maybe an intercooler you will want to go with a fuel pump and injectors. Might as well go with a decent sized pump and injectors to support any further mods and boost down the road. After you have all your bolt ons and fuel, time for those twins or single turbo. Lot of choices to make when picking turbo sizes.

im attempting to SAVE on the cost of instal of some of these mods. i do happen to have a nice engine lift and lots o crazy tools in my garage ( i dont know why but i do most r unused ). i figure i can install the injectors myself ( doesnt seem difficult ). as for fuel pump are you all talking in tank pump or inline? honestly i dont even know if rx7s have inline pumps, my stang now does though...
