Need advise about positive battery cable relocation

Hi all,



Today I redid my battery relocation at the trunk to improve some ground connections and making it more tidy than before. So my mech saw the main fuse box (main 120A,EGI etc) where the positive cable connected with an external fuse and found it was dirty with an acidic green stuff.

He then disconnected all the fuse in the box and took out the fuse connector socket plate inside the box and show me all the green stuff was all over it.It's not good.He slowly grind/clean them and put it back.



Then instead connecting the positive cable back to the main fuse box, he suggested to connect it to the starter motor down under. He said there will be no problem because the main fuse box and starter motor works together and will firstly see the current. He also didn't use any external fuse when connecting to the starter motor.



Without an argument and in a hurry for other things, I went back home after checking all the stuff working properly. So far no problem.



My question is would it be OK what my mech did to the positive battery cable? What risk may involve connecting it that way? Do this effect charging/discharging of the alternator etc?



Any opinion?

you can connect directly to the starter without issue...

id just be concerned on how he routed that positive cable...im assumin they are near the fuel lines

He routed the positive cable from the fender hollow area into inside of the engine bay bellow the ABS system (It's RHD rx7). The cable seats lower than the fuel lines and not near them.



So there will be no long-term issue for this setup right?



and yeah, my mech said I better be prepared searching for a good condition main fuse box because the green stuff has done damage on the connector plate and will not last long enough.

It should be fine.. No issues by connecting to the starter then up to the main fuse.



I would suggest that you get at least 100A fuse put on close to the battery.

Get a circuit breaker and mount it near your battery. Doubles as a theft deterent too.

I think I used a 135 amp one on a three rotor and it hasn't tripped from the starter yet. They're also not very big, takes up less space than the car stereo fuse I used in my own car before I found these.
