Ok, test results. I did some logging on Saturday since I had a decent drive in the morning, and had to return in the afternoon. I left my place around 9AM with the temp about 75 degrees outside. This is not in the temp range that worries me, but the results were still impressive. During my whole trip down (about 45 min.) my water temps did not budge even once off of 83C, even while boosting and passing people on slight grades. When I eventually exited the freeway I opted to not turn on my fans to see what happened, I drove about 5 miles off the freeway through a series of lights and crossed PCH in the Long Beach area. Over that ten minute span the water temps did not move, not even one degree.

Now to the drive home, I drove back to the freeway without the fans on again with the same results. The outside air temp was at least 10 degrees warmer than earlier, as evidenced by my water temps which was 2 degrees warmer.. 85C. One interesting thing I noticed was my air intake temps were also exactly 2 degrees higher than the morning, I accounted all of this to the higher ambient temps. The whole trip home I had the same results, when I got closer to my house the temps were much higher than the morning.. more like 90F. I did my best to drive the car harder, varying my speed and boosting within the speed and traffic limits.. I could not get it to rise past 87C. So far it seems to work very well, only time will really tell.

I do have the fan mod done, and it works great around town and cools the car very well. Anything above 50mph though and the fans are useless, it's all about airflow from the front of the car at that point.

I have experimented with removing the weatherstripping, it doesn't seem to make much difference that I can notice. I do know that the base of the windshield is a high pressure zone, while the inside of the engine bay is low pressure.. it seems logical that outside air could get forced into the engine bay and prevent the hot air past the radiator from escaping under the car as easily. I'm by no means an expert on this.
I tried this and didn't see any drop in coolant temps. The air temp against the firewall might be cooler, but that doesn't mean its cooling the motor any. I think it may interfere with airflor through the engine bay as air definatley gets sucked in there, not vented out at speed. It also fogs up the glass when its humid.
